Just look up grocery stores in your area, then go out behind them at 2-3am with some grocery bags and a small flashlight. It helps if you're willing to dive inside the dumpster. I don't need one, being a fit manlet, but use some kind of stool if you need it. Only go if it's been 70 degrees F or under, as any higher and it's likely any meat thrown away will be really bad, or the dumpster smells extra nasty. Don't be a pussy about taking meat either. If it smells horrible, avoid it, but if it smells only slightly bad, take it and see how it tastes when cooked. It's usually ok, but if not, toss it. I've never gotten sick from dis shit, and have found a lot of great food this way, sometimes ribs and roasts, and once a couple lobster tails. Some stores have cameras, locks on the dumpsters, or compactors. Avoid those.
Take all the fruit you find, as you can make booze out of it. Just mash and boil in water, add sugar, then when it cools down so you don't scald your finger when you dip it for 10 seconds, add yeast. Baker's yeast will work well enough, but I recommend getting actual wine yeast. It's faster and makes stronger booze, plus it doesn't cloud up as much at the end when agitated and stays solid.. I use either champagne yeast for its high alcohol making properties, or alcotec 48, also for it's high alcohol, but also speed. Put it in a big juice bottle with the lid slightly unscrewed, a big pot with a lid on, or a Lowes food grade bucket with a towel over it. Wait a 3 weeks or so for the fermentation to go until the bubbles stop, let the dead yeast settle, then pour it out carefully to not disturb the dead yeast at the bottom. The dead yeast tastes like shit. Can be strained with a coffee filter too after pouring, but it's better to "rack" it a few times, as yeast gets agitated and needs to settle.

Dumpster diving's not for everyone, as it can get filthy, but I don't mind at all. It can get nasty/gag inducing at times, but others it's only slightly filthy. On a good day I can pretty much fill up an empty fridge, 3 decent/average days and it's stuffed. I have a full sized fridge and a separate freezer in the garage, and sometimes I have to stop diving so I can make room. Even in the summer/warmer days when I have to stop diving, I can live for months of my findings. Don't give up if you need free food. Honestly finding notheing is rarer than at least finding something. I'd guess at least 70% of the time I find something, if not lots of stuff. Overall it's a very rewarding hobby if you're a poorfag. Like I said, it's better if you actually go inside the dumpster and rifle around. Sometimes I have to open up trash bags to get packages of meat, and theres meat juices n shit. I also make sure to tie them back up, as to cover my tracks at least a little.
