Empornium is a private tracker. That means it's like a website like piratebay except you need an account to use it. Empornium used to be open signup but now you need an invite to get in. Once in you need to maintain a certain ratio of upload to download.
The benefits of this system is that content is better organised and seeded for longer. There is less risk of getting a piracy warning letter because only people with accounts can see what you're downloading (although there are some copywrite trolls on emp). Most private trackers also have a request system.

yah last year they had the big meltdown when they found out somebody had gotten in and gotten ips of the people downloading their content. Emp went in to full lock down mode for like a day or so.

Sorry fampai, I only have what.cd and I use that too much to trade it (also my ratio is kind of bad because I'm just starting out and am building a big seedpool).
I recommend queueing for the interview when you have a free day and just shitposting or watching a film while you wait. They don't mind if you take a while to respond, so you don't have to be constantly at the computer. The actual interview is really easy and you can find versions on google to practise with.
