make a very small opening, use a piece of folded paper to hold the glass up just enough to allow air, but not enough for it to escape
insert whatever gas into the glass, then remove the paper

If you want to collect dead wasps, I'd like to suggest turning on a high-wattage (+200W) torchere lamp around dusk next to an open window. They will literally fly straight into the lamp and die due to the intense heat.

Get a lamp like this. I ended up with at least two dozen flies and mosquitoes, and 6 wasps by the time it was winter. Sometimes you could hear them sizzling and the room would smell like burnt hair for a moment.
