I'm an environmental scientist. If someone wants to build or alter something on their property that is close to a waterbody I have to review their permit application and go out and do a site inspection to make sure natural habitat or the water way isn't damaged in some way. I have provincial legislation backing me up when I do this.

People get very pissed off at me when I tell them they can't put their septic bed 5 feet from the shore, or destroy a wetland/marsh to put in a dock.

How do I get this job?
>>
I work in a fast food kitchen on weekends and all I do is listen to music while I wash dishes and sometimes help others when it gets busy.

Coworkers and managers are mostly chill with the occasional dumbass assistant managers making themselves feel big.
>>
>>26091862
It's either really fucking chill or really fucking stressful. Mostly stressful. I can't just walk around though, I gotta do stuff like restocking and helping customers find stuff, as well as cashier (which is literally a nightmare btw) sometimes. Some days I hate my job with the life of me, other days I kind of enjoy it. But even on the days I enjoy it, it's still difficult and stressful.

This thread dude Jesus fucking Christ. Every single fast food job I've had (sonic, Pizza Hut, pizza inn, papa johns) I've quit before they can fire me because I'm so fucking slow. My anxiety just fucking overwhelms me whenever I'm trying to prepare their food and shit. I have to look at the ticket like 30 times because I'm afraid I'll forget something (or sometimes it doesn't matter how many times I look at the ticket, I still find a way to fuck it up). It sucks ass and I'm doing anything I can to never have to work fast food again. It's so bad I'm constantly thinking about going into work whenever I'm at home trying to relax. Fucking terrible.

If it's a low skill job they don't even check previous employment or references unless you get some autistic manager who would actually call around

Just lie and put down a friend or family member phone # for past employment and have them lie about being a manager

Obviously don't apply for a electronic engineer job at Intel and think you can bullshit your way in, apply for jobs that don't require any sort of physical proof (i.e. certifications/degrees) that you are qualified for and fake it till you make it

I've worked for 6 companies my life and they always ask if I have a HS diploma and/or drivers license and I've never had to provide proof or show I had any of it (I have them but just goes to show they don't check any of the shit you write down)

there is no reason to work minimum wage unless you're literally starving or your parents got cancer and need meds or something.... just stay home. shitty jobs like this will tire the fuck out of you and suck out your soul. and if shitty jobs are all you're qualified for then just become a NEET. you'll probably kill yourself by the time you're 30 but guess what? working minimum wage for 10+ years will make you suicidal too

i was finally pulled out of neetdom to work at a new kfc that was opening. They took on about 70 staff and it was supposed to be the busiest kfc in this part of the country but the manager took on mostly attractive teenage girls and boys, theyd argue with customers, with eachother, sit on their phones when there was queues and eventually business went to shit, half the staff left and i went to the mcdonalds down the road. There has to be an air of discipline, if you fuck about or argue with a customer at my mcdonalds you get in trouble, at kfc there was shift managers who where complete fucking idiots but who were friends with the franchisee so got a free ticket and its been a disaster for the owner

good references aren't enough. if you were working and studying at the same time and got a degree in something useful, then yeah, you're set. personally I've tried it several times and couldn't handle the 90+ hour workweek. congrats if you did.

there are tons of 30-40 year olds who've been working shitty jobs since they were 18 and can't find anything better, and now they're stuck because they got kids or debt and need the money. at the last min wage job I had half the people in there were 25+

They don't give you any money? Of course they don't when you are still living with them. You have to man up and ask daddy for an apartment that way he will know that you are ready to handle weekly money now
>>
option A - zero money, but you are free to do what you want 7 days a week
option B - a little money, you are only free 1 day a week (in most shitty jobs you will have to work 6 days a week)

your life will be shit either way but at least you'll have some fun and be a lot less stressed as a NEET. most entertainment is free (videogames, movies, forums etc) there is no reason at all to choose B

if you can't get a good job (your own desk, air conditioning, 5 days a week, no one breathing down your neck etc) and have no kids to feed then just don't work. people need to stop applying for these shitty jobs. then maybe employers would offer better working conditions

In my opinion cashier is easiest job. With the exception of huge groups that want giant fucking orders, or people with really specific requests, it's the easiest job and it's less potential to fuck up.

It's the most stressful thing to do at first, but after a month or so you can do it in your sleep (I actually used to dream about taking orders all night). It also helps that 90% of people order the exact same thing. Number 6 combo with fries, or a number 5 combo with fries.

Only thing that sucks is the way we have to harass the customers about saving 10% or trying a desert for an extra dollar and all that bullshit. It ruins the flow completely, but I almost got fired for not asking so now I just harass everyone. Elderly, little kids, people who say they just want to buy a small drink, whatever.

I used to get annoyed by it but I've come to realize people just really fucking want their MSG chicken. The huge lines don't even bother me as much, it's the people who see how huge the line is, and still fucking complain and tell that they have to wait. Like what the fuck did you expect?

The other day it was a line almost as big as pic related, and there was only 2 of us. I was in the back cooking as fast as possible to keep up, while one person was both taking orders and packing the food by herself. I started running back and forth to help her the front and cool more food, but obviously we ran out at one point. Some guy ordered like a 16 piece and got mad that he had been waiting 6 minutes. He starts yelling at me and I tell him that it won't be done until another 5 minutes. Dude just starts raging at me. I ask him if he wants mild chicken instead, which we have enough of still, and he says no. Then he keeps yelling, when I try to go back to work he tells me to come back so he can yell at me more. Why? What more do you want? It's not like I can just magically make it finish faster. Most customers are great but you get some absolute fucking angry retards.

If it had turned out to be not what I thought, I probably wouldn't have been in really bad trouble but it could have turned into a real debacle.

Most antibiotics are based on a spectrum so it probably would have treated other gram negatives even if it wasn't exactly what I thought it was, but if it hadn't, it definitely could have killed the kid and I would have been involved in a really bad situation where you have to explain to the director why you reported what you did. Then I would have been apart of a huge paperwork mess to explain why a patient died from something treatable and why it was misreported by the lab.

It's some old persian guy with bad english. He was once asked me to do something but all I heard was "clean tins" I asked him if he said "Did you clean the tins?" or "Can you clean the tins?" Damn. That sounds really rough man. Is the pay at least good? I think it's not even accidentally causing someone's death that would bother me as much as the aftermath you described. Also imagine making a mistake like that more than once. I think it'd be better if there was a full team that made a decision together than having to just make a judgement alone.

How difficult is it usually? For the most part is it a pretty clear what you're looking at? Or do problems with possible doubts happen a lot

Upper management gives family members lower management positions and makes them impossible to fire.

I'm in Virginia now and it's the same thing. They manage to get every single order wrong that isn't just "large #3" I'm amazed they all have jobs when teenagers will work for min wage too except they don't mess up constantly.

Because apparently it was as easy as puncturing the top, the signal on radios in the cellar is bad, especially when they're at the very top floor. They never explained that I had to mess with a tap to control the gas so it didn't go flat or push up a small, almost unseeable lever on the wall to release the pressure up the tap easier
>>

Pay is pretty good. Better than average at least and the health benefits are really nice.

Well, on 2nd shift and 1st shift (day time shifts), there are more people in the lab and if you get something weird you can ask other but on night shift (3rd) there is a smaller staff and fewer to ask so you're kind of on your own. But you also have a smaller volume of stuff at night so it's a mixed bag.

It's usually not too difficult. You get a lot of routine shit that you see a lot. Food poisoning, E. coli infection, some wound abscess that's just a mild staph infection, etc. But every once in a while you get something ridiculous that's an abnormal. It's exciting but stressful at the same time.

Most bacterial stuff you can look at yourself, do a few tests, have a general idea of what it is, and then you put it in a machine that can tell you with pretty good certainty what it is based off chemicals inside the machine. That takes off a lot of the stress. Problem is that if a patient has some kind of blood, CSF, or brain infection you may not have time to do a whole array of tests and throw it in the machine to tell what it is. Instead, you have to do just a few tests, get a general idea, and then send out a report ASAP so the doctor can get to work.

The worst is when the machine is down and you get some fucking crazy bacteria that is really rare and you have to go hunting in books to find what it could be, rushing all over the place to figure out what tests to run.

Also, there's the off chance you could have some really pathogenic that, once you identify it, you have to go into quarantine and get treated with antibiotics for months just for being around it. It's stressful at times for sure because of this.

Thank you for the post anon. Sounds like a pretty nice job, and meaningful. h
Hopefully you never get quarantined. I'm trying to decide what to do in life so I love when people talk about their jobs in depth.

What are your coworkers like?
>>
Customer/people interaction at work is the worst, I worked as a mail clerk and was able to talk to coworkers and managers enough but when jt came to doing the rounds I fucking hated having to interact with people when delivering the mail to assigned offices and departments in the building.

Never knew if I should do more to interact with them and small talk or just act like a robot with brief answers and responses and just do my job, I just wanted to do the latter and not interact with anyone beyond just mail delivery but that would probably make them feel creeped or whatever even though it would be most comfortable for me.

Never again.

My ideal job now is something where I get to work with computers or with some quiet machinery and talk to no one all day but the manager or whatever.

Wish there were more jobs for those with a high tolerance for solitude but no, every fucking job requires "people skills", daily interaction and a "bubbly personality"!

I wouldnt mind being the cog in the machine if I didnt need to interact so much and could do my work in solitutde and quiet where I perform at my best, in middle school, high school, college, oh but not even there could you get away with that because of all the mandatory "group work", fuck that hell.

>tfw real robots will replace the jobs fit for robots like data entry/keyer and all that will be left in the future are highly specialised fields, teaching and service industry

What a nightmare
>>
>>26096832
My official job title is Medical Technologist if you want to look it up.

Cowokers are mostly introverts. The day shifts have an older crowd but night shifts is a lot of young people. Most people are pretty friendly in the lab. The worst is dealing with the bitchy nurses and pushy doctors. It's not too bad though.
>>
>>26096474
Actually I'm pretty sure I saw a study recently that proved the opposite. Something with an observed phenomenon where attractive women get treated better at work, and get more promotions and raises, but were less likely to get an interview if they included a picture on their resume. The two facts seemed to contradict themselves.

They found in the end it's because HR is mostly used up whores and bitter post wall sluts. They were jealous of better looking women so they wouldn't call them for interviews.

https://archive.is/O0n4J
>So the cause of the discrimination must lie elsewhere. Human resources departments tend to be staffed mostly by women. Indeed, in the Israeli study, 93% of those tasked with selecting whom to invite for an interview were female. The researchers' unavoidable and unpalatable conclusion is that old-fashioned jealousy led the women to discriminate against pretty candidates.

I punched a foreman when I used to work at a stamping plant. He had spent quite literally the whole shift up my asshole over a bunch of non-issues and I just couldn't take it anymore. When it came time to go home, I turned around, punched him, swiped out, and left. Now I work at a bowling alley. I make more than what I did at the stamping plant and my boss actually respects me. No yelling or talking down to me because he knows I'll get shit done without an issue as long as I'm not treated like dirt. Say "thanks" to me once in a while and I'll even do extra. Saw a guy like this at an old job I worked at in the Amazon warehouse. He was always getting grief for not hitting his targets fast enough, and would just wait for ages until easy to work items came along the line instead of taking what he got.

Plenty of times I'd see the team leaders over talking to him like he was a child and I knew exactly how he probably felt because he looked extremely autistic and sheltered. They ended up retraining him but I left before I saw what his end was.
