I know this girl who says she struggles with depression. Her social life dwarfs mine and she has a girlfriend (she's bi).
How can I be doing so much worse than someone who is literally depressed? Do you think it's just grill bullshit and she's not that bad? she's mentioned her "doctor" but idk what that really means.

Depends on when she started having those depressed feelings. She could have already had her gf and established group of friends before something happened in her life to cause the depression.
Or shes been dealing with it for some time and has forced herself to acquire these things despite not having particularly strong emotions to these people, all while thinking they hate her and shes useless as shit.

well she said it's been going on for years and she's practiced appearing happy. She does a lot of active stuff that makes it seem like she's got things going very well. I think it's intermittent.

if you go around telling everybody that you struggle with depression, you probably just feel sad once in a while and would like people to feel sorry for you. I am pretty depressed, I consider suicide at least every month, I have never told anyone about it. inb4 you are telling people now

I've been living with this constant sadness in the back of my head for all my life. At times it was so bad that I wanted to kill myself just so that I wouldn't have to be sad anymore. Now I got it under control for the most part but it never really goes away.
