Those are their profiles, look at the (Last played date) i circled in red, 18 jan, last year, and 21 jan 2015, that was the last time they both played.
The came back jan 21 2016 both at the same time
They are currently online and its extremely bizarre to me im not trolling
like going to 4 different stores and the last stores costs = exactly what you had left over from the 3 previous and you weren't even paying attention.

Okay I think I know what happened
OP must have thought the date was some time before January 18th (OP, please go outside every once in a while), leading him to believe that his friends not having played the game since Jan 18 and 21 meant that it's been a year since they last touched Dota.
Seeing them both log on and play Dota today would be weird since they don't know each other. But they probably play regularly and OP just didn't notice until today.

sometimes if you put your pc on hibernation and then power it up again, it will tell you they logged off when you turned on the pc. sometimes it happens when the internet goes off shortly.
