Either way, the industry standard is set, and all VR headsets are going to hover around that price for this gen's lifecycle (which will be very long because of it's novelty) until the next gen will boast a $50-100 decrease (the cost of which will be shifted into requiring even more demanding videocards)
If I had foldin' money I wouldn't need to spend it on VR just to jack it, I'd be banging gold-diggers (or at least hiring prostitutes)

The price, hardware demands, and overall asshole-like feeling people get when using it (not dissimilar to the fleshlight) will keep VR on the fringe for a very, very long time.
At best it'll be an expensive gimmick put into a few higher-end arcades and bought by PC master race nerds with money to blow.
I don't expect to see it hit the mainstream markets until at least 2025.
