>We will never go back to a pre-social media, pre-smartphone Internet

I think about this every day. I hate what the modern Internet is like and how much it's warped things. The sad part is how it all went downhill so quickly.

That's not true, there was lots of hope and euphoria. From Wikipedia, independent journalism, the Arab Spring, whisteblowers...

All of these promises didn't really work out.

Well, it's become so bad the only way it could go is up.

Unless it becomes so cancerous it collapses on itself and creates a supermassive-megacancerhole

The first time i browsed an internet web page was in 1992. I was 18. Do the math.

My first social network was a rotary phone.

Photo sharing was done via a duffel bag and old ratted porn mags.

Even the bullies had to go out of their way to bully you...

If you were born after 1990 basically easy mode.

Its crazy how simply deactivating Facebook for even a month can cut you off from all your friends until you are completely isolated socially; physically and "virtually".

I only have 1 friends phone number and beyond that, people completely rely on this shit to communicate. back when i actually contacted females (the dark ages), they wouldn't actually talk to me IRL, they would only have conversations with me online, especially since i didn't have a profile picture, anytime i ran into them IRL they would diffuse the situation as fast as possible to get out of there, I could honestly see it on their faces and hear it in their voices. Felt like complete shit every time it happened. Better to just cut it all off.
