>>

Deep-fried foods are not all that greasy if they're cooked properly, believe it or not. Deep-frying is actually a form of flash-boiling. If the oil is hot enough, it turns the moisture in whatever you're deep-frying instantly to steam, then holds the super-heated steam in, insulating what you're cooking against the oil while it cooks. The problem most people have is the oil isn't hot enough. As long as the oil is hot enough, it won't touch what you're cooking. It's the same phenomenon which allows people to walk on coals or dip their hand in molten lead: the Leidenfrost Effect.

My father grew up very poor. He used to have to collect bottles on the street to buy a loaf of bread and balogna to feed his siblings several times a week. His own father died young, but while he was alive, he'd stop by the river on his way home from the coal yards and try to catch a catfish or two with a hook and line he kept in his pocket -- and this was always a treat for the family. So when my father grew up, even though he made a middle class income, he regarded sardines as a rare treat and would sit in the living room with his eyes closed, munching on sardines, presumably savouring his ability to purchase them whenever he felt like it. I guess I inherited my love of sardines from him; he always looked transcendant when he ate them, so I probably associated them with pleasure.

Interesting how brands vary so much.

Brunswick seem to be larger more mature fish with a stronger ammonia smell/flavor.

I can't stomach them.

On the other hand King Oscar sardines are petite and smell/taste pretty.

I'm in heaven with a large dollop of extra virgin (tfw) olive oil.

Guys I've been living the canned fish life for a year now and it's been tremendous for my health. I'd like to recommend that you all check out anchovies, mackerel, tuna and my personal favorite: oysters. You'll find that the taste, nutrition and price of these little fuckers are all above board.
>>
>>25845469
Almost all tinned oysters on the market today come from China, where they rape the sea beds to get them. They don't give a rat's ass about the toxins, heavy metals, and radioactive isotopes in the oysters.
>>
>>25845992

Oh damn. Oysters are a bottom dwelling scavenger species too are they not?
>>
>>25843552
>literally got one good item
lol you are a retard and should leave the canned goods to the professionals
>>
>>25846107
They feed by filtering the water. You can imagine what the water is like in China. Living in Beijing knocks 15 years off your lifespan because of the toxic air.
>>
>>25837926
About to eat them for the first time. What should I expect? Aren't there bones? Should I eat it in one bite or just nibble on it?
>>
>>25846190

Well all other fish breathe by "filtering" water too, or no? Actually oysters don't even look like fully mobile creatures to me. They're like blobs or something lol.
>>
>>25846349
Wrong. Fish send water over their gills to get oxygen from the water, but eat plankton/other life forms to live. Muscles/oysters/clams/scallops filter very small particles from the water to make up their diet.

Yesterday I ate the ones with sunflower oil, today I ate the ones with tomato sauce. These are bigger. I ate them on a burrito, with pesto and hot sauce.
>>
>>25846410

And it's those particles that are vastly more polluted than plankton you're saying
>>
>>25846714

Do you think the tomato sauce sort of intrudes on their flavor a little bit too much tho? I mean, oil imparts a relatively light and neutral taste to the sardines but tomato sauce and it's included sugar sort of really changes the game. You can't wash that flavor off easily either, can you?

>>

>>
>>25849250
There's actually very little mercury in sardines as they're small animals. Biomagnification (collection of pollutants) doesn't have much affect on smaller animals as the life forms they eat are small, and don't have a lot of pollutants in their body. However, things like tuna eat lots of things like anchovies and sardines, and the small amounts of toxins like mercury in those tiny fish build up in the big fish.

>>
>>25849437
No. You could eat canned greens every day and have no consequences. In fact it would be very healthy.

The only thing to watch for with sardines is gout. If you eat too much of them (three or four cans a day for several days) your feet can swell up and ache.
>>

Everything is bad for you. Even the air you breath this very moment is most likely dirty with something, e.g. dust that got into the air by youre computer fan's. Or exhaust funes from cars. Or plasticizers from your computer mouse.

Even sunshine can induce cancer.

Crossing the street can also be bad for you if you get hit by a car.
>>
>>25849630
Beans are good for you though
>>
>>25849534
Thanks. I know canned red meat is bad for you because it's barely even real meat, and the preservatives they use in them but I wasn't sure if they use the same thing in fish or other foods.

>>25849583
Do manufacturers really not think of this? Or do they just not care.

>>25849630
I know but some things are worse for you than others. Like processed red meat it will legit give you colon cancer if you eat it a few times a week for several years.
>>
>>25849630

Even being on r9k can give you cancer. I wonder how many Sardine defficiant anons who developed brain tumors and died because they lack the iniative to try something hearty and wholesome like a can of Sardines

Yeah, everything can also be good for you if you want it to be like that.

>>25849678
Stop worrying and live. You may reduce youre red meat intake and still get run over by a car tomorrow, so in my opinion there's no real reason to not eat red meat by that logic.

It's all just a matter of which standpoint one takes.

It's not about dying for me, but quality of life. I don't give a fuck how long I live, I just want to be functional for the majority of my life. I see people hitting their mid-thirties that aren't even fat, but are out of breath from walking up a flight of stairs. They're tired and exhausted all the time because of their poor life choices putting strain on their bodies. I don't wanna become like that, especially since most people are living to 70 or later. Fuck, if they are already breaking down when they're halfway through life I don't wanna imagine how bad it is when they get older.
