How much should you have by 21?
>tfw 10k in bank
Consider that most americans have less than 1k in the bank at any time.
>24
>$23 in bank
check your money privileged shitlord

ITT: Idiots letting money sit in shitty interest savings instead of investing it.
This is why you're all dirtypoor faggots
Honestly in 90% of cases I wouldn't bother saving anything at all until you get a real job
The paltry amount of money you are able to save in your early 20s is nothing compared to what you will be able to save in your late 20s or early 30s, and the difference it could make to your lifestyle right now is probably significant
Keep a month's worth of living expenses in an emergency fund, and maybe save for a vacation or a big purchase, but outside of that blow it all on good times
Having said that, if you have 10k you're not inclined to spend you should invest it somehow, sitting in cash is a waste
>>25788203
>he doesn't owe the bank money by being negative
Check YOUR privilege
>>25788225
>>25788230
What should I do with it then? I only need like 2k of it. So I'm left with 8k.
>>25788238
you're right anon
I'm very lucky to be poor
>>25788300
Easiest thing is ETFs, but do your research, some people think ETFs are a bubble about to burst. Choosing the right fund is key.
If you have more appetite for risk and time to manage it you could get in to options trading, a relatively safe way to leverage your money, so your $8k could potentially control tens of thousands of dollars worth of stock.
You could also afford a down payment on a house in certain real estate markets (ie rural), which you could either renovate and flip or rent out
>>25788300
>>25788335
You could also outsource coding of a simple app or website if you have any ideas, or maybe even start a microbusiness
>>25788300
Talk to a stock broker. Ignore all advice about money here, as they are all NEETs.
>>25788335
>>25788300
>>25788348
or you could produce a youtube channel or podcast, good money in those if they get popular
you could buy and flip shit on craigslist or ebay
you could speculate on antiques or artwork
there's a lot of options
>>25788335
So ETFs are.. Pretty much stocks? Now I'm a stupid 21 who is going to college this year, I'm not very smart with this kind of stuff.
>down payment on a house
I wish I could but the cheapest apartment here runs around 400k..
>>25788348
I'm looking for some ideas actually, I'm going to major in CS anyway
>>25788415
Basically an ETF is a fund that owns a small interest in many large companies, this way it is protected from the fate of any individual company, and the returns will basically mirror the economy as a whole
It's a set and forget investment, dump your cash in and you don't have to worry about it for years, but as they say, low risk = low reward
>the cheapest apartment here runs around 400k
If you are buying the house as an investment it doesn't have to be anywhere near you, it could be on the other side of the country
>22
>14k in bank and will be receiving another 3k in the near future
Wew
>>25788453
>other side of the country
Yeah so like.. 60 km away. I'm in Singapore, so eh, forgot to mention I'm talking 8K SGD so .. Around 5.5k USD. Not sure what I can do with that.
I know there are lots of those 'saving plans' whereby you commit about a hundred or so every month then you get a payout after 20 years or so, but those feel like a scam.
I'm 21 and I got like $80 right now. But payday is Tuesday so it's all good.
I'm 24 and I have $46k in the bank but I'm about to drop a load of that on a house.
So how much does the average American college fee cost?
Mine cost around 14.5k USD for 3 years.

Look at this retard thinking he has the secret to get rich by investing 10k in le epic stocks!
KYS

$10k a year is on the really cheap end. More realistically it's like $15k-$20k a year for a good public school, but private universities (these aren't worth it if they aren't super prestigious), can go from $30k-$60k a year.
You just pay for your education through higher taxes. Americans have lower taxes but higher tuitions.
>>25791791
Okay so how long do the average college years last? I'm assuming 3 years so.. Holy fuck 45k USD no wonder you guys complain about student debt.
19 and 80k
Gonna graduate about 6k in debt, but I'll also have a job with a 60k+ salary. College was probably worth it.
>>25791596
Went to CC for 4 years, took mainly online classes that barely cost any time
Netted me 22k. Then I went to a state university that netted me about 4k more due to scholarships, the Pell Grant and Bogfw paid for rest.
Got 26k for my Bachelor's. Didn't bother working the entire time, just dicked around and lived the sweet NEET life because I was stalling out my degree for cash.
Honestly, I would have stalled it longer since I wanted to live the lazy complacent life for as long as possible, but financial aid only lasts 6 years. Interning was a pain, but I'm working for that company and they'll pay for my master's soon as well.
feels good man
>>25791835
It takes 4 years, I wish it was 3 lmao
>>25791899
60k.. In debt.. Right after you graduate. Man that sucks.

>>25790479
>>25788513
>>25788186
How the fuck do you have so much stored away? 10k seems possible but the rest seem absurd.
>>25792045
I have 10k in the bank, because I'm in national service now and meals are free, don't need to spend much on necessity and they pay me 700 a month.
>>25792141
National service always sounded like a pain to me so good on you for dealing with it and saving money.
>>25791947
If you go to a community college, it can be 100% paid. I took longer time, despite starting with AP credit and shit. Three years off mostly full time, and a summer class. State and Federal grants (not even any extra) covered all of it. I was with my parents though, so they covered rent and food. I even got like $750 back for each full-time semester.
University is where they really Jew the hell out of you. My university is nowhere near grocery stores or anything, they explicit put it out of the way. Most of the students have cars and get scholarships set up for them by family or faculty, all the women have bfs that help pay for them, it's all this shit. What's really disgusting is the cost is easily twice, if not three times, despite the classes being 75-150 students a lecture and the classes being complete shit that an app could do better. Meanwhile, one of my classes at CC was every-other year, only needed for Engineering majors, and we had 8-10 students.
>>25788186
Got like 8k because I don't spend my neetbux. 23yo here
>by 21
If you live in burgerland odds are you're about 40k in debt. and thats just an average from student loans, could be much higher if you went to a well known Uni.
>>25792045
Normalfags just get money handed to them.
>someone sets them up with a job in high school
>parents pay for any car they need
>someone sets them up with scholarships and work study for early college
>someone sets them up for internships and bigger scholarships later college
>someone sets them up with a job after school
>in school they do less than half the work someone normally does because they just copy off friends and beg the teacher to let them retake tests and shit
>21 $53 in checking -$65,284 in Scottrade account.
just stopped answering calls, thinking about smashing phone with hammer.
>>25788579
>singapoo faggot is dirt poor
Not surprising. Maybe if you spent less time shitting up /pol/ and more time working you wouldn't be a fucking failure
Economic collapse this year so it wont be worth anything anyway.
Better buy real estate or resources or something with your money as long as it is worth something.
>>25788193
Idk where you got that figure, I read the average college student has $750
I'm 22 and have $6k
>>25791791
I went to a non-prestigious private school on a decent scholarship.
Tuition was $30k-ish and scholarship covered 13k, grant covered 5k, ended up being 12k/yr + room & meal plan which I dropped my sophomore year.
>>25792203
Yeah it sucks, too bad it's mandatory.
>>25792256
Well to be fair I don't browse /pol/ at all and I can't work hard even if I want. I'm stuck in national service.
>>25792254
how the fuck do you get $65k in debt by 21
>>25792357
I owe 47 for college and 16 for a car.
I have a decent income though.
>24
>Has never had more than 5k in my bank thanks to circumstances
>Its now sitting at 2k
Jesus its pitiful
>live in denmark
>rich parents
no problem
>be 22
>have no money at all and still live with my mom
you fags aren't robots ffs
>>25792252
for whatever reason i istantly hate people who got their car from their parents.
>>25792215
so, don't fucking go to university, if it's really that bad, just don't fucking go..
>>25791844
HOW?!
i'm 18, turning 19 in 3 months, and i only have like 5k, how the fuck did you make 80k anon?
>>25792252
not really normalfags, my parents set me up with a semi-okay job for when i finish school, but seriously, there's no way in hell my parents would pay for my car, if your parents pay for your car your parents are obviously rich AF and you're spoiled AF.
>>25792967
get a job for fuck sakes, seriously, 22 and not having a dollar to your name is pathedic, even for a robot..
