Modern technology has a created an atmosphere of false expectations in us.
Many things we dreamed of in the past have become reality. Cars that drive themselves, virtual reality, and genetic modification are all within reach for humanity.
But some things are not. They are incredibly far away or simply impossible. Space travel outside our solar system and time travel fall into this category.
But in our subconscious minds this isn't so. We hold out hope that some day we will be able to give up this life and live inside a new body, or become immortal, or travel through time to go back and do it all over. This has a negative influence on our choices in life. We do not make enough of an effort to make the most of the time we are allotted.
