I live in California. My vote is 100% meaningless. In the past I've voted for 3rd party candidates so they could reach the threshhold for national funding but that's not even possible this year. I'll probably vote for whoever is losing in the national poll just to make it look closer when people point to the popular vote.

I used to argue with my highschool civics teacher about the futility of voting.
She gave me that old line "If everyone who thought like you did went out to vote, you'd make a difference."
I said that whether or not I vote doesn't make every other apathetic voter more enthusiastic, non-participants are an inherent part of universal suffrage, and besides my political views are obviously not going to align with every non-voter, and further more it would never change the enormous institutional advantages the two party system have legislated for themselves specifically to curb any outside representation.
She said it was "civic duty" to vote and ended it at that.
Fact of the matter is with the electoral system, the vast majority of votes in a presidential election DO NOT MATTER in any way shape or form. It's a futile gesture. I'll save myself the effort by staying home on election day.
