Furthermore, too much sugar can force your body to overproduce urine by taking water wherever it's available. So if you're sick, it's a bad idea to consume sugar because your body needs to maximize fluid retention AND vitamin C absorption.
That wouldn't stop me from consuming moderate levels of sugar when healthy though, just like salt, make sure you're consuming enough fluid to rinse it out.
