I work, go to school, listen to music or play video games.

Long time ago I came to the conclusion that majority of humanity is awful.
However to keep myself somewhat sane I do believe that there are kind and geuine folks.
They're just sparse.
And so I somehow got the idea, that to meet these lucky sparks, I need to become one myself. So I strive to be better. However I have no clue if I'm doing any good. And so I really don't know anyone anymore.

I'd say there are many other ways to find out.
Either through philosophy or spirituality and/or the occult.
Things such as lucid dreams, astral projections or obee's are enough to get some insight into the concept of death.
You could compare it in a simpliest way to alteration of the consciousness.
Or any other paradigm kind of shift towards an alternate state.
That would propably depend on whether what Your views are more centered around.
That's where the whole idea in regards to fear of death come up.
It's just fear of the unknown, or of having to farewell with boundries we got used to.
Come to think of it, not getting too attached might be a good idea.
On the other hand a nihilist approuch could do wonder too I presume.
Or if we were to approach the concept from the other side, indeed there's no way to find out cause again it's something so odd, impossible to comprehend by our time centered minds that it's an endless paradox of existential struggle. So saying that death is the only way to find out is just as foolish, having no clue whether we keep our time based mind's, or if the spirit has any idea or awareness of time and perspective. I'm not sure what I'm talking about, but I also have no idea how to express or talk of it. Fair enough.

Actually each afterlife might be just as well an individual space designed in regards to our inner cores. Perhaps just overlapping due the time and space stagnation. An alternative or even the opposite to the somewhat stable time based reality we came to live in. Really, just try to imagine existance without time. We can't, and it could just as well be the drastical shift alongside the "transition" we see in death.
