How do you find a hairstyle that fits you? People are always telling me to get a haircut and when I get one it ends up worse than before.
With a pretty face it doesn't matter what kind of haircut you get. All will look nice.

Use gel man. I had the same problem but it got better once I started using gel.
Go to a salon, and not a barber. Then say that you're looking for a new style, and that you want their advice/help on what would suit you. It's their job to do this.
