I never understood the obsession people have with purpose. Everyone always wants one, but with no purpose you can do whatever you want. Fuck purpose.

I think your confusing free will with setting life goals anon. Just because someone has dedicated themselves to a specific purpose doesn't mean they don't have the power to change that or do whatever they please. Hell I could give up and become a rodeo clown if I wanted, but I wont, because that's not where I belong.

This world would be no different without you
Most of humanity is superfluous
We are tiny faceless cogs in the machine we call civilization
Easily replaceable

>>25580848
I understand what you are saying, but life goal is still a lot different than a purpose. Life goals like getting a job, building a family, get money, fame, etc are all great motivating factors but still don't answer whats the purpose of it all.

>This world would be no different without you
Not even going to bother explaining this one.
>Most of humanity is superfluous
That implies there is a sufficient level of humanity we have surpassed.
>We are tiny faceless cogs in the machine we call civilization
Or individuals working together to accomplish our respective goals through a system of complex interactions called civilization.
>Easily replaceable
1) Biologically? Nine months of vulnerability within another person's stomach is hardly easy, nor are the subsequent years of education and training.
2) Emotionally? Tell that to your parents
3) Economically? Perhaps, but that's more the fault of the system then you as an individual.
4) Mathematically? Again, basic logic.

If you're going to ruminate endlessly on how utterly devoid of meaning human existence is then the very least you can do is present us with something a little more substantial than this retarded haiku.

If I understand you correctly, you're basically asking me to tell you the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. That's easy: 42.

Joking aside, you're delving into some deep philosophical questions for which there are numerous conflicting answers. Some say religion, others say doing good, yadda yadda yadda. My question to you, and anyone else reading this, is why get so hung up on the "purpose" of it all in the first place? Does it really matter? Would knowing the answer to this question bring you any satisfaction? Would having this knowledge somehow resolve the issues you're dealing with? No. No it wouldn't.

Instead of asking the same question over and over again, why not eschew the question entirely, at least for short while, and focus on how YOU are going to live YOUR life.

God I fucking love cocaine.

Yes it would correct any undoings in my life because if i realized there is in fact no god and real meaning beyond surviving and the arbitrary goals we set for ourselves at the behest of looking adequate in front of our peers and parents. If the truth cameout and and this is all pointless i would kill myself rn.

Those are good questions everyone should answer. Not sure I can for myself, but Im ok with that for now.

It comes down to this
An individual's value is only as large as the individual's contribution to society
Moving humanity forward is more important than maintaining the status quo which is more important than doing nothing

Humanity as a whole has a great deal of meaning, but the individual stories, short of huge steps forward for the collective, are largely meaningless
>>
>>25581503
I'm going to try and decipher this

> It would correct any undoings in my life
This statement suggests that by understanding the true meaning of life (if such a thing is possible), somehow, your life choices will be validated? Either that or justify anything you feel guilty about.

>because if i realized there is in fact no god or any real meaning beyond surviving and the arbitrary goals we set for ourselves.
>If the truth came out and and this is all pointless i would kill myself
Assuming your correct and life is meaningless, then wouldn't your existence be that much more precious precisely because you and you alone are the only one who can arbitrate its value?

Sounds very utilitarian to me. Looks like you already have a modus operandi. Excellent work anon.

>Humanity as a whole has a great deal of meaning, but the individual stories, short of huge steps forward for the collective, are largely meaningless
"The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts." nicely worded. Well thought out. However, if the individual components are meaningless then the sum of a collection of zeros is still zero, thereby rendering your "collective" meaningless as well. I'd have rephrased this to clarify that the individual, according to your beliefs, is infinitesimal in value but not entirely devoid of meaning.
>>
>>25581868
Fair point. Since most advances are made by the contribution of many, that value is shared by all contributing factors to varying degrees
>>
>>25581732
>Assuming your correct and life is meaningless, then wouldn't your existence be that much more precious precisely because you and you alone are the only one who can arbitrate its value?
This has some substance, bear witness to whatever this is.

Civilizations last attempt at escaping the jaws of nihilism was nazi germany. The last roar against the individualism and narcissism we see today; the toll it has taken on our generations psyche maybe be irrevocable.

Without purpose you get out of bed in the morning and question the decision. Maybe if you stayed there long enough you'd just fade away.
