Characteristics of matriarchal societies in nature
>Paternity is deliberately confused
>Promiscuous mating practices encouraged, facilitating the above
>Males are not included in the rearing of their own children
>The family unit consists of sisters and their offspring along a matrilineal line, the father is not involved
>Males have lower status than all females within a family unit, but base status with outsiders on their mother's status (ie limited options for social mobility for males)
>Aggression is directed towards those within the society rather than outward, and infighting is a serious problem
