I'm taking classes at my college, if you want to do it by yourself (not that I would recommend this) I'd say buy the Alif Baa and Al-Kitaab textbooks and spend an hour everyday doing a lesson and then another hour or so practicing what you've learned. Arabic's difficulty mostly comes from the foreigness of it, i.e. New alphabet, new grammar rules, new vocal sounds, etc. Once you get the hang of it though, you mostly just focus on expanding your vocab.

Also in terms of employment, it's highly in demand, both because of it's recent importance and because very few people in the West are learning it. Basic supply and demand.
