This book gave me words to describe my worldview. Started me on a downward spiral in despair.

Notes from Underground is /r9k/:The Novel
>>25491279
oh how did it do that> was it that profound?
>>25491410
It's basically a book about philosophical pessimism. Says life is bad and that the human condition is so awful that perpetuating it is wrong.
>>25491436
ooh i might have to give it a read!
>>25490414
The book of disquiet
>>25491292
this is also a good one
didn't somebody try to start a robot book club a few months ago? How did that end up going?
I like The Witcher books.
I probably just have shit taste, but whenever I come across a thread like this on 4chan it always ends up seeming like it's full of pretentious bullshit.
>tfw nobody else likes pulp detective novels and trashy space operas
>>25490414
Considered God-Emperor of Dune to be my favorite book for about 15 years before this gem dethroned it. I don't think I've ever paused to stare off into space and think so many times while reading something.
>>25494177
I've always imagined David Foster Wallace as possessing a very whiny orgasmic mien --being a "whiny cummer", as it were--, and there's something incredibly sad and banal about that.
>>25494246
Hadn't really thought about his whining necessarily in the vein, but his interviews certainly have a distinct tinge of whine that I find unpalatable.
Particularly resonant in the novel, however, were the parts relating to drug abuse, depression and fundamental disconnection with others despite living in a dormitory-like environment (armyfag barracks rat here).
this is the /justfuckmyshitup/ reading list
what are the comfiest books
>>25494945
I got you senpai
there's nothing comfier than cute girls doing cute thingssometimes with older men
>>25494177
I read the full DUne series when i was younger and i found God emperor and Heretics a bit dry but i suppose because of being younger i missed the true value of the books
Neuromancer, most Steinbeck and the first Dune book. The rest were garbage though
What is so good about this series that I hear so much of?

>I love the Dune series, its probably been my most influential book up to date, it changed the way i look at things.
Same here man, it really changed my life. This is what I am on at the moment and I'll be reading the last book soon enough. I also have a lot of political books, especially historic ones. Most of my books are fictional stories though. Still, the personal experience of the authors rubs off on you even if it is a fictional book so it is still useful in life and the way you think. One author I really admire is Aldous Huxley, he thinks in the same way I do and I really like the mysticism in his books. His experiences with psychedelics are interesting because I am interested in that as well.

Mysterious Stranger by Mark Twain

I plan to read this over the summer. Do you think I could do it in three months?

Jeeze it's like I'm meant to be on this board. These authors would be in my top 5 for sure.
Ligotti's book is brilliant because he's not trying to convince optimists of his position. He's speaking directly toward pessimists and putting your thoughts into words.
Dostoevsky is phenomenal. Brothers Karamazov is like a roller coaster of the human experience.
The first four Dune books are amazing literature, but I think Destination Void is my favorite from Herbert. It's too bad the rest of the Pandora series lost its way.
Reading Dune at work and Hyperion at home. Pretty dope
>>25496246
the ones by his son are worth a read and are incredibly enjoyable, although they dont hold up to his fathers work
>>25496612
I've heard people talk shit about them, but I may take a look at them anyways. From what I understand they are just supplemental knowledge on some of the groups of the Dune universe.
>>25496240
Wow you fuckers won't even post why you like your books except for some vague ass tripe like "It changed my life".
What's good? Diction, Characters, Developement, underlying messages, setting, plot? What change of view did it stir inside you? You cocksuckers.

It solidified my view on materialist life and the inefficacy of such a pursuit.
>>25490414
Dune is alright, it is hard to ignore Franks son though.
>>25491244
Ye, Hyperion is best series ever.
Jack Vance is a fantastic author who you should check out. Lyonesse, Tshcai tetralogy and Dying Earth novels are very fine works of him.
Also see that Mistborn is not mentioned yet. Nice book.
Asimov's Robot Stories
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
>>25496783
ive just read Foundation part I, i have the Robot series to read next, how good we talking here anon?
>>25496849
Pretty fucking good, anon. "Victory Unintentional" is probably my favourite.
>>25496680
yeah its like the background to how the original feud of the Atredies and Harkonnen came to be and how Leto I became duke and what happened to his Father.
It also has one of my favourite characters backstories; Rhombur Vernius, what happened to him in one of the books was a real tear jerker.
>>25496684
fuck i love this book its in my top 5
pic related, number 1
>>25496964
That sounds pretty interesting, I shall consider reading some of those.

>That scene where the normies "forget" to inform the narrator that they changed the time of the dinner.
>>25496449
>Brothers Karamazov is like a roller coaster of the human experience.
I agree wholeheartedly. There are so many great scenes and metaphors like The Onion scene, the party scene before the arrest, Smerdyakov, Ivan and the Devil, TGI, Zoisma's life story. Can't wait to re-read it.
one of my favorite books
