I don't understand lifting. When I used to go to the gym I wouldn't try to use anything that weighed over 80 pounds (I weigh more than twice of that).

If I tried anything really heavy it would just be too fucking heavy.

Yeah if it was anything over 100 it was just too much. I know they say you're supposed to lift half your bodyweight or something. I just fucking gave up instead.

Nigga I have 6 inch wrists and hands literally the same size or smaller than a woman's and tiny skinny fingers yet after 3 months I could bench my BW (70KG) and dl 120KG. My squat sucked hard though at 75kg even though I squatted 3 times a week. It hurt my knees and I just could not get my form right.

Dont listen to fucking /fit they are retarded. They try ot scare away people by saying they benched 220lbs after just 6 montchs and that they started with squating their bodyweight x10. they are full of bs jsut do shit your in your own pace.

When I started at 16 my 1 rep max was 45-50 kg (fuck imperial). Unless you are some kind of beast you wont bench fucking 60kg on your first try and nobody expect you to.

Da Phuk?

Where the hell do you live? Why is everyone there so weak? My current max bench is 230lb for 5 reps. 250lb 1RM. I'm not saying this to brag. I'm one of the smallest pussies there. I'm surrounded by monsters who bench 315 for 4 sets of ten reps. They use my max to warm up! I refuse to believe that no one in your gym can do 2pl8. That's impossible.
>>
>>25473762
You use stabilisers more when using dumbells which makes it harder. Dumbells are actually better for strength gains according to my gym going housemates.
>>
>>25473521

What the fuck are you talking about? Keep your lifting a secret if you want to, but if all you work is your biceps, you're going to look fucking stupid.

good job anon you can do it. i use to curl 34lb dumbbell but not anymore i can do 18 for like 10 rep.
>>
>>25474383

>I'm surrounded by monsters

Haha, no you're not. You're just paying more attention to them(Unless you legitimately go to a powerlifting gym). The weaklets don't register to your brain.

In reality, most people are weak by /fit/ standards. Strength is over represented much like dick size. People with big muscles are more likely to brag and misrepresent the average. It doesn't help that if you complain about being weak, people jump down your throat for not trying hard enough.

tl;dr confirmation bias

FYI, I do. I'm well aware of the confirmation bias you speak of, and I assure you that is not the case. I was most certainly not exaggerating when I spoke of being surrounded. The gym I go to has at least 20 IFBB pro's. The rest are serious lifters who happen to be unaffiliated.

I have *honestly* only been benching for half a year and I just about rep 175 for 5x5. (and I broke my wrist so also had to take about a month and a half off). I regularly see guys benching much more than me.
In fact, of the people who actually use the bench in my gym, I would say 50% or so can bench more than me.

And that is not just because they are muscle gods or irregularities. I squat 285lb for 5x5 and that is more than most people in the gym. But my bench is very weak compared to my squat. I'm not going to go full /fit/ and say a bench is weak unless its 315lb but c'mon, you must see SOME guys at least benching 2 plates

Starting Strength and youtube videos will help, you can practice form with something like a broom at home if you want. Otherwise start with the bar to learn form.
>>
>>25473322
Dumbbells are a great way of exercising for beginners. Still to build up your base strenght or whatever you might need a training bench, more dumbbells.

I wouldn't come far with only dumbbells and especially 20-25lbs. I would need dumbbells up to 70lbs atleast and that wouldn't even be enough after a while.

So you should get to know your strenght and find a set of dumbbells that works for you. When I started I was at 11lbs dumbbells. Now I use 45lbs dumbbells atleast for any exercise.

So get matching dumbbells, lower weights maybe, a bench, watch some videos for tips and exercises and get a schedual.

Anything else you need to know.

If you want to do BICEPS only I suggest you read up on some info online. You would need to train Biceps, triceps, pecs and shoulder. Instead of dumbbells you can fill those 10liter water bottle thingies and use them. They work great as a starter kit.
Also decide if you want Strenght or just Volume.

More reps less weight=Bigger Volume
Less reps bigger weights= Strenght
This is usually why people that does a lot of cardio exercises look really strong and etc but it is really just them burning fat and building mass.

Seriously, you're obviously lying right now.

First of all, you don't train 2 times a day 7 days.

You train maybe 5 times at most per week. 1-2 hour sessions and THREE Sets not 2. And you train arms alone. Chest area with maybe the abs.

Back you train alone. Same for legdays.

I went from 10 lady pushups and 0 pushups to 10-15 pushups in 2 months. I weigh 196lbs, how much do you reckon I could bench?
Also I think I'm plateauing, not seeing any improvement since I got to the 10 pushup point.
>>
>>25479151
>10-15 pushups

you're not lifting your whole weight. watch those sixth grade science videos again, you're putting a lot of weight on your feet and decreasing the work required by a lot. the same reason lady pushups are easier than full pushups is the reason pushups are easier than benching your bodyweight. you could probably bench the bar 5 times

i'm in sort of a similar boat, doing bodyweight exercises in lieu of weightlifting. the progress is slow with a much smaller effort/reward ratios but the discipline you learn is important if you ever want to hit the gym
>>
>>25479151
also

>i think i'm plateauing

at 10 pushups? force yourself to do 15 every set instead. it is literally 5 more pushups, one of the easiest arm/chest exercises imaginable. if you can't force yourself to do 5 more pushups than your supposed limit then you will never make progress period

>>
>>25481257
Don't be a faggot. Start with the bar on the normal bench and keep adding five pounds until you can only do 5 or 6 reps. Then use that weight and add 5 pounds every other day you do it. You can usually tell from the first rep if it's too much to get to five.

If you fail you can slowly lower it to your chest and roll it down your abdomen, especially with such a light weight. However if you never go too heavy it's unlikely that you'll fail.
>>
>>25481257
That's almost exactly what I am and I can put up 115. Maybe I could do more, but like you I have no one to spot. I don't use the machine but I don't go into dangerous weight as I don't want to die from a bar.

curls are best exercise for full body training
>>
>>25474097
you can do heaps of exercises with dumbells
exercises:
bench - chest, tris (doing close), press - shoulders. hold them while doing situps for some added resistance
do chest/back/shoulder flys, these use lower weight too. there's different variations too.
for traps you can do shrugs or raises, there's different ways to do raises. shrugs need pretty big weight though
a lot of those exercises are more 'targeted' exercises, which people say aren't the best for strength but are better for looks... though I don't know if thats true or not
for legs you can do lunges and goblet squats. leg exercises need more weight so it's hard with dumbells besides those two

just start out small with the exercises and get proper form. don't try do too high with exercises like raises (especially shoulder ones). you use low weight for shoulder/back ones. look up how to do properly and stretch out first, so you don't fuck up your shoulder or tear a muscle

dieting is the most important though... having a decent diet will help a lot in gaining muscle, losing weight etc.
>>
>I've been going to the gym since my new years resolution and I can't lift as heavy as the chads with 5+ years experience, this is obviously a shit normie chad meme bullshit that'll never work for me, I'm just going to quit this bullshit.

This fucking denial. You're giving up using the typical /r9k/ mental shield of every failure is someone elses fault and any self improvement requiring hard work is not needed.

What shits me the most is this argument of 'This maybe this works FOR CHADS but it doesn't work for me', is that you're arguing against a BASIC BODILY FUNCTION OF SELF REPAIR. If you're getting bruises that never fade and cuts that never heal shut, okay, maybe you have an argument to be made, but if you're able bodied enough to walk to the gym your musculoskeletal system is in working order enough to start at a small weight and progress to a heavier weight later, and it's YOU that's fucking something up, either your nutrition, rest, workout routine or consistency of training.

People suffer muscular atrophy from years of medical inactivity and regain their strength through physiotherapy and weight training program and SO CAN YOU. If you don't want to, or have no interest, or think it's a pointless indulgence of vanity, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with you saying any of that, I legitimately want you to go your own way in life. But don't give me this horseshit about how it's just a chad meme to make fun of robots you self-pity-hugbox fucks.

It's a good benchmark because 20kg/45lb plates are typically the biggest you find, and each additional 90lbs gives a good sense of the strength level. If you know how much each plate weighs and realize that a standard barbell is 45lb as well you don't have any problems with this layman's term

this is bait.

1. There are atleast 3-4 years between these pictures. The training you would have to do to get this far in one year is so ludicrous you would have to go to the gym every day and take steroids.

2. The genes of the person in the pictures are the least of their worries. Not excelent fat distribution and good chest muscle type. Their collar bone is visible even when they are still "fat", while on the right picture, you can see there is no space below the collar bone. This usually takes years to achieve and some peopl cannot do it at all.

Oh and dont even get me started on your skeleton. Not everybody has bones ideally sized for a model male body.

In summary, the person in the pictures is not you. Kill yourself.

everyones weak when they start don't worry about it, at 6'1 you can get pretty heavy so bulk to like 180lbs and try to get 220lbs bench, it's easily doable within a year for you, you just have to train and be consistent.
