Public Events are you friend. I made maybe 10 mil in my type 6 with a trading event the day I got it, it was fantastic. I didn't get the expansion though and haven't played in a while, was getting into mining after the mining drones were added but it got boring mining alone.

I just wish there was a bit more incentive to work together. Last time I played, trade dividends were some shit like 2% so not really worth odd jumps with people in different ships, bounties on ships were split straight down the middle and the system sec did most of the work anyway so it was better to hunt alone, and mining was obviously intended for solo since asteroids had so limited reserves and you don't want to pass on the good shit.
As for the 15 year road map, that's cool that they plan on updating it that long, but I agree they should update more often.
