You should try it. I got a leadership position in a club when I transferred colleges. I did it to get some leadership experience and it's been pretty chill so far. I think it can definitely open some doors for you.
One thing I've noticed is that some people who claim introversion just don't handle any stress well. Make sure you can handle some stress but student government is not very serious.
