Well I'm just taking shots in the dark here, but when you go to the barber, learn to ask for a bit more than just "shorter." For example, learn the different sizes for razor blade guards (I think they range from 1 to 8 or so). Hair styles are like fashion in that what's "hot" is always changing, but there's usually a good baseline that doesn't shift that much. I'd experiment a little and see what works for you. Maybe invest in some good gel or mousse.
