IMO the reason so many people are trooning out is the same as why so many kids and young people drift to a life of crime and substance abuse. Now, take someone who isn't likely to hang out with the "bad kids" behind the school and instead hangs around on message boards, Tumblr and what have you. They find others with stories of never fitting in, of feeling uncomfortable in their own bodies etc. These people share stories of "realizing" they were trannies and get showered with positive attention.
