It's never really ever been anything more than that either. Only the ongoing decay of the net makes people want to jump aboard nostalgia-fueled identity politics, act like it's reddit "bringing them down".

It's an attempt to sort of 'disconnect' 4chan from the rotting corpse of the world wide web, and identifying reddit and other large mainstream websites (twitter, youtube, facebook) as the nucleus of that corpse, while denying that 4chan is now one of those websites just aswell.

4chan has a lot less to do with reddit than newfaggots seem to think.
