A dog once bit my sisters leg, hospitalising her for weeks. I eventually murdered the owner. First two years I had almost daily anxiety attacks, but I can pretty much function normally now.

Not quite, two other unrelated teenagers were playing frisbee in the park that my sister was in, and the pit bull was being walked through. They threw the frisbee and it veered off and hit my sister. As the frisbee was flying through the air, the dog started to chase for it. My sister held the frisbee then the dog started mauling her.
If a drunk driver had 6 double whiskeys, then drove home and ran over your family member, who survived by the grace of god, would you not feel the same? Sure, that drunk driver didn't intentionally try to murder your family member, but they were extremely careless with other people's lives.

I got in a hit and run where the guy was put into a medically induced coma, but he ended up living. Wasn't even drunk, I just can't see well at night. There's still a $10,000 reward that his family put up for information leading to an arrest. I live in a really small state, and it happened close to where I live, so I was terrified for months that someone saw me. This happened years ago, but I still worry about it.
My parents knew, and actively helped me cover up what happened. I told them I hit a deer, but they knew what really happened because two days later they woke me up really early in the morning and interrogated me because the story was all over the news since they thought the guy was going to die at the time, but I never admitted it. They hid me in the house for literally a month straight, wasn't allowed to leave for anything. My dad got rid of the car, he still hasn't told anyone what he did with it. I think he dumped the car in the ocean somehow, I don't know. We reported the car stolen a few months later, nothing ever came of it.
I wasn't allowed to drive for years afterward, and they still worry about me all the time. I don't know how I wasn't caught, people must have noticed that I suddenly wasn't driving anymore or that my car wasn't ever seen in the driveway around the time it happened. I'm a lot more grateful for my parents now; they literally helped me cover up a murder, because at that time the news was reporting that he was unlikely to survive. I guess they knew I'd kill myself in jail after getting ass raped, which would inevitably happen.

I don't know if this qualifies, but I'm going to write it anyway because I have a guilty conscience.
I was in a PhD program for a social science but was hating every minute of it. My adviser wanted me to to spend every waking moment in the lab so she could append her name to my publications (she was untenured). I was also generally uninterested in course content and didn't like my peers very much...
So I decided it would be a good idea to develop a coke habit. I mean, really, it's not that simple, and there was no decision making process at any point, but essentially I got hooked on a bunch of hard narcotics. So you can imagine what happened -- academics and finances got a bit fucked and my parents caught wind of it. They'd been through this before with me because I've been an alcoholic since 15 and was actually sober for a long while before this so they didn't freak out too much. But then my mother found out about a bunch of my father's infidelities and generally assholish behavior (he cancelled his fucking life insurance for which she was the beneficiary and her health insurance too without telling her)...
So I said, "yeah, come out here and stay with me for a while, we can keep an eye on each other," thinking that I could do my mom a solid while she can perhaps help out in curtailing my drug use...

I won't go into the details, but after a few more months this was the scene: I come home from my dealer's place with a pocket full of crack rocks and my mother knows this. So she starts begging me not to continue using, but I'm like go to hell bitch. So then she says that she's going to kill herself if I continue to use. I knew she meant it. She's not one for idle threats. And while, I definitely paused for a second to process the decision that was facing me, it wasn't for long. I doubt that many anons know what it's like to be on the other side of a crack binge, but it's horrible. It's almost as bad as being really dope sick (I know this from experience too). And shit, I never really liked my mom that much to begin with so fuck it. I got into my room and start puffing away...
2 hours later, I stumble out of my room because I'm having a crack induced panic attack and think I'm dying. I call 911 and throw flush the rest of my shit. They come out and find me, but then they find my mom as well, who had downed a shitload of ambien and xanax apparently. So we both get put on stretchers and wheeled out of my apartment.
Long story short, she survived and I got sober again, but ffs. Three years later I still have a major head trip about the shit that went down and the decision that I made. Moral of the story: don't smoke crack it will fuck your shit up.
