Haven't read any spooky books. Mostly I read science-fiction. Less and less movies and shows present me with a new thing or concept that fills me with thought or wonder, but books still manage to do that.
It's not just you. All current media has turned to shit. The only tv show that is remotely watchable right now is izombie, and only because it has a cute girl main character.
Last season of anime was also full of shit, not one good show (if you say one punch man was good I'll fucking smack you)

Berserk is a good manga series, but if you don't like waiting don't read it, the author goes on hiatus quite a bit, once for two years.
I ended up reading one punch man (original web version), I liked the comical effect, gantz is downright fucking amazing.
There was a short horror manga I read, I can't judge if it's good or bad since I'm not that huge a horror fan, but it kept me enthralled, if I remember the name I'll post again

I read all of Gantz actually, I loved the part where Oka Hachirou shows up in a Gantz mech. Even if he got his head ripped off without them even showing the fight. It was bullshit how Nurarihyon lost to Katou's faggoty tactics.
