I wish I wasn't sober right now. I should have gotten drunk enough to pass out today.
Since I was 23 or 24 I've drunk at least half a bottle of whiskey daily

I've been doing this for the past two years.
I managed two days without any booze earlier this week after a raging headache hangover. I rarely get headaches during hangovers, but decided I'd cut back. That failed.

After your body gets physiologically addicted, and you keep going, there is potential for Grand Mal Seizures and the like, which can end up fatal. It's recommended to very slowly ween off, or detox.
I'm lucky enough that my addictions are all psychological and I don't get a physiological addiction. I can even quit smoking without withdrawals, barring the general jonesing for a smoke.
I'd recommend every few months taking a couple days off from boozing. It's actually kind of refreshing to not be hungover all day.

I once went full fag and did a rough tally of the number of shots of gin I drank in a night (Seagram's on the rocks, baby) early this summer when I was first getting back to nightly drinking, and my tally was around 27. I didn't measure precisely, but based my tally on how I know I pour my booze over rocks.
