Just make sure you actually make an effort. When I went into the Halo room, I thought "oh well, this is it huh" and didn't really make friends with the people I was playing with. When I went to the second room, it even took me a while to talk to those guys.
One looked like a complete normie, and it made me judge the group the same way, so I didn't really go near them (mostly because I thought they wouldn't even acknowledge me and I'd be sitting there kind of awkwardly) for a while. I stared at them for a while before I considered talking to them. It confused me so much because they didn't look like they'd have the same taste in vidya like I did, but I was surprised.
I eventually befriended more of their group (since they're 2nd years) and now I have a good set of friends who are into the stuff I am. It's great.

From January-May I had a group of friends I hung out, ate lunch, had classes, drank, smoked, etc. with. Was the happiest time of my life and I didn't even realize it.
Managed to get into a relationship and met some relatively nice people. The fact that I never thought that would happen is amazing to me.
