firstly, a minority of people like it. it's easier to bait than rap or whatever because you'd be drowned out by numbers in that case.
moreover, what most people are familiar with in metal is a relatively shit section of the catalogue. metal does not have its best foot forward as a genre. thus metal's reputation isn't one that protects it from mockery; if i start shitposting in /mu/ about the swans or IIII LOOOOOOVE YOU JESUS CU-RIIIIIIIIIST, people can turn around and say that i'm a pleb, that i'm the dumb one for not "getting it" and there's somehow legitimacy there

I think Bach is more about the contrapuntal structure and his music is supposed to be serene and contemplative. Big orchestra makes it sound too dramatic and romantic.
