Same shit here, friendo. I tend to feel more comfortable in comfortable environments and around people I'm relatively comfortable with. Like work, some family meetups (immediate family) and with my small group of online friends.
At social and bigger family gatherings, even with new guilds back when WoW wasn't garbage, I tend to shut off mentally like something in my brain triggers a shut off switch or something. Maybe it's a defense mechanism of sorts or just all that vidya and limited social engagement over childhood made shit harder now. I dunno familia. At least you're in a managerial position at work so that's cool.
