Which one would you read first?
Also throwing out the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov as a recommend.
Hyperion >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dune
>>25371596
I would read Dune first since the first book is where a lot of people stop
Help me have not shit taste /r9k/
>>25371596
eyyyy just finished foundation the other day, really enjoyed it. Dune definitely for next read, although hyperion is great too.
>>25371814
Lately I've been reading a ton of Murakami, but honestly read what you like. I think that really just reading anything is a good idea.
>buying physical books
cuck to the tree killing industry
>>25372000
>buying digital books
Why even live without that sweet paper
>>25371962
>Murakami
With him i discovered that i only like books with dragons or spaceships, his stories seem like a combination of mexican telenovels and anime.
All 3 are awesome. I'd personally do Dune then Foundation then Hyperion
>tfw you will never read dune for the first time again
Also read Book of the New Sun
Dune dude
get on that shit its amazing
Dune was a pretty nice read, but its sequels get progressively uninteresting to such a point that I had difficulty getting myself to finish Chapterhouse.
It works perfectly as a stand-alone book though so it's not like you have to buy the rest of the Dune books lol

that's fair, I just love his writing style and the surrealism that his books have
>>25371596
i just finished dune for the first time and would highly recommend.
the prose isn't brilliant but it has the best goddamn lore of any fictional universe i've ever encountered
>>25371814
>all that Abnett

I'm usually a big McCarthy fan, but he lost me with blood meridian. He just alternated between describing overly gorey scenes, and talking about sand. It's one of the only books that I've read that I couldn't finish.
>>25371814
>dat Abnett
Enjoy Traitor General and Sabbat Martyr because the books go downhill fast after that. Blood Pact is 9/10 though. Pick up the Last Chancer's omnibus if you want, the books in it are bretty gud.
I've probably posted this a few times on here over the years but I don't think I'll ever stop.
If you come to /r9k/ for any reason whatsoever (I'm looking at all of you), you will enjoy reading 'Siddhartha' by Herman Hesse. It's a quick read and it flows like a gentle river. You know those cozy, comfy feelings you get from whatever the fuck you find comfy? This is the direct version. No smoke and mirrors, just pure, from the source coziness.
I don't think a single text has changed my life as much as this one and I've encountered others who feel the same.
""He envied them [for]...the sense of importance with which they lived their lives, the depth of their pleasure and sorrows, the anxious but sweet happiness of their continual power to love. These people were always in love with themselves..."
>>25371596
what are those books like? I love sci fi and I really need to read more.
>tfw just got my library card today, and I got computer technical manuals
>>25372569
Siddhartha really hit me hard back in high school, great read anon.
Phillip K Dick is a great writer as some other anon mentioned already. I also highly recommend Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. Very interesting take on extraterrestrial life and human interaction with it
>>25372268
>sci-fi
>Blood Meridian
Absolutely pleb.
>got a kindle for Christmas
>unlimited free books
>no shitty pages that can get damaged, stuck together or some other stupid shit

>The Road
His fucking worst novel m8
>>25373918
pseudo intellectual book collection you got there.
>>25372569
I didn't get much from Siddhartha. Didn't feel comfy at all or anything.
>>25373918
>Naked Lunch
Okay I like Burroughs but let's be real here, his literature is about pushing the boundaries as far as possible. It's not like it's particularly amazing literature, and at times it's ludicrously lurid. I'm not denying that it's existence is extremely significant, but don't pretend people are plebs if they don't want to read it.
>>25373918
Virginia Woolf is good. I like To the Lighthouse. A Room of Her Own isn't a very /r9k/ approved choice though. Here's mine. R8

Are these your entire libraries? Because I contemplated trying to take a picture but I just have way, way too much shit to justify it.
The only book you need, silly boys.
>>25374092
>kamasutra
>>25374126
Yes. I have a noice library nearby with tonnes of books so I don't buy much. Post your pic up if you want. You can take a panorama pic.
>finished Infinite Jest last month
Going full meme senpai. Also Paranoid King is best character
>>25374179
I have two full size bookshelves, and I don't care enough to take pictures of my shit just so that some faggot on /r9k/ can point out a couple of low tier books.
>>25371596
>tfw your thirftbooks never arrived
>>25374259
Eh.. I won't mock you. Do it if you want. I don't like the whole Pleb/ Patrician thing. People get too caught up on it sometimes.
Recommend me some books robofags
Good read. A thousand sons first
Dune first. Good taste though, anon. I'm picking up Sundiver by David Brin soon, have you read it? I really like genometry and biological uplift type-stuff if you have any other suggestions for me.

>tfw borrowed Infinite Jest from the library because /lit/ sucks it's dick
>not even past page 5 and it's been a week
How do I even read? I used to read entire book series every week as a teen. Have I become retarded?
>>25374824
No. It's just an extremely difficult postmodernist novel. That's normal tbqh.
>>25372268
Echopraxia/Blindsight
Accelerando
Quantum Thief
The Culture series
Altered Carbon
Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect
Permutation city
from the top of my head, probably forgot some great ones
Does anyone here like John Scalzi?
>>25376444
>first novel
Why haven't we written our novels, anons? We have goals, dreams. Why can't we do them
