The video might have had a point if we still all lived in tribes of 30 or 40 people and never mingled with outsiders, so everyone you ever met would have a decent knowledge of all your past behavior. In the modern world however, the "devious" players who he claims only benefit in the short term actually benefit forever because they can constantly meet new people who have no idea of their intentions or their past transgressions and reap the same rewards over and over again.

Its so funny that the game he uses "the Prisoner's Dilemma" and explains everything correct. Even the strategy "tit for tat" is correctly explained and that it creates the most revenue.
What he didnt tell you:
EVEN IN FUCKING THEORY this applies only if you dont know how many rounds of the prioner's dilemma you play.
When you know what the last round is, its always beneficial to betray on the last round because the other person can't react to it. By proving inductivly this applies to all rounds. (I even had this last year in theoretical computer science).
What that means is that this guy is not telling you the whole truth, probably on purpose for propaganda reasons.
this would make some sense to me if cooperating equated to being "nice"
and it doesn't, they're telling you that social animals are the most successful which everybody already knew

This is literally the stupidest fucking argument. Human altruism evolved culturally not through genetics even fucking Darwin says this in the descent of man. Snakes eat each other this isn't nice and they still have more offspring and the species evolves
In all of those examples the nice guys were acting in self interest that happened to be in the interest of the group. None of those examples demonstrated selflessness.

Yeah that about covers it.
What's better: be a "mean" alpha till you're thirty and then turn "nice" and marry a 21 year old who will stay decent looking for 20 years when you divorce her and marry another 21 year old repeat till death
OR
Be a "nice" beta and get nothing till you're 35 at which point a washed up hold whore desperate for support MIGHT suddenly appreciate your "niceness", marry you, cheat on you in a few months when she gets bored with you and divorce you as soon as she gets a few kiddies out, taking your shekels for the rest of your life
I put "nice" and "mean" in quotes because it's a false dichotomy, the real pairing are "weak" and "strong" and "boring" and "interesting". An alpha can be nice when he wants to and has the option to settle as young as he wants, betas are at the mercy of women for their happiness.
