In my case I have pretty bad ADHD and have been on stims my whole life, so withdrawals are terrible. My dopamine levels are fucked. No motivation whatsoever.
I have plenty of ability to be smart, but unless I take advantage of that, I am a somewhat talented, but completely uninformed individual. I enjoy the sciences, the process of learning, so doing that is a little bit easier for me than, say English.
I'm thinking about getting /fit/ because of some of the additional health benifits. Maybe ask /sci/ to teach me about GR, particle physics, QM.
Point being, you aren't smart unless you have a natural drive for knowledge. That drive can be fucked up though if you have a dopamine problem. Stims might help.

I'm basically a great test taker and can get As in school without having any idea what is going on. It's how I made it through my BSEE program.
Now I'm a NEET though because, like the post says, I never actually learned the material.

We don't really have a good metric for measuring intelligence, as you can game tests pretty easily. But actually smart people tend to score well too.

No not really. There is a .4-.6 correlation between grades and fluid intelligence. There is also a decent correlation between work ethic, impulse control and intelligence.
Because of the imperfect correlation, people with good grades will be smarter than average, but not the smartest person in the class, and the smartest person in the class will get above average grades, but not the best grades.
MENSA accepts the GRE and SAT as measures of IQ and fluid intelligence, so don't even pretend you can "game" tests or whatever. This isn't No Game No Life.
