I honestly used to be like that until (don't hate me plz) my gf made me get a license, even scheduled the driving test for me. I took course and I was honestly nervous and the lights were confusing but once I got confident on the road but not arrogant enough to go past my limits, I got comfortable driving.
I even bought my second car and learned standard on it my way home across the city a few months ago.

I'm not that Anon that you're replying to but on the outside the M60 used in E32 740s and E34 540s looks very much like the M62(vanos or non-vanos) used in E38 740s and E39 540s. However, the M62 is a much more powerful engine, it might not seems like it on paper but it has a ton of extra torque. The most powerful M62 was used in 97-98 540s(mine pictured above) and the most refined M62 was used in the 99-03 540s.

To be fair I bought it second hand and the previous owner was some proper lady with rheumatoid arthritis and she never drove it because it was too low to the ground for her to get into so it only had 20K miles on the clock.
It was fine for a while but using it like a normal car has basically worn it down massively. It probably doesn't help that I hate driving slowly on the motorway and I have to take it on the motorway daily now.
Still better than my first car which was a 06 Hyundai Getz whose only redeeming feature was a decent default speaker system.

The M60 is a way better engine internally, though. The 96-98 M62B44 is alright, the 99-03 M62B44TUB is a pleasure to drive but a nightmare to take care of.
Keep that 740iL, Anon, there aren't many like it and yours looks to be in good condition.

It is a series one, so there was 5.3, only a 2.8 and a 4.2. It is just the 2.8 model, which is still bretty gud actually. I don't drive faster than 60/70 kmph with it anyways, so it doesn't matter much.
