kono chiisai machi o mamorette imasu!!

I'm only learning to speak, I'm not interested in learning kanji. I have gana and kana down just fine but non-ascii text isn't allowed here.

No thanks. I'd rather learn cheeki breeki so Aya can look my way

Thank you kind sir

I thought with present tense you turn the "u" particle to "e" before the tte, though. I am not sure why I think this.
>>
I did it for a solid three months with Anki literally every night, and I just got bored of it. It's pretty neat to understand a large amount of lines in anime, but considering I don't want to (and can't) move to Japan, and I don't care a lot about untranslated material, it's pointless for me to in the long run.

There's two types of verbs, ichidan and godan. Ichidan ends up being the verb stem plus te iru, godan becomes either nde iru, or tte iru. You can see what verbs are what in pretty much all Japanese dictionaries.

This is only partly true. The te-form does become -tte for u-verbs (godan verbs)ending in -u, -tsu, and -ru, in which case the last syllable is simply dropped and -tte added.

The te-form is -nde for u-verbs ending in -nu, -bu or -mu. For -su verbs it's -shite and for -ku verbs it's -ite.

It's exactly like conjugating them to the past-tense but with -te instead of -ta.

I would only ever go to Japan as a tourist, so I doubt learning the language would really be worth it. I'm happy reading subs.
>>
>>25350969
Literally the only worthwhile thing about learning Japanese is learning Kanji.
Kana is pretentious, worthless garbage.

>>25350530
Japan is a shithole, nobody in their right mind would want to live there.
>>
>>25354660
You need to learn kana to read Japanese, and there is nothing "pretentious" or "worthless" about it.
>>
>>25354682
A syllable based writing system is completely retarded.
>>
>>25354693
Kana is not used as a full writing system, it's used as a supplement to kanji.
>>
>>25354754
Exactly, it's fucking retarded.
It's just another stupid isolationist island nation quirk they use to make themselves seem more special compared to the Chinese (see Nihonjinron).
>>
>>25354785
Kana is very useful.

If you don't know anything the language and clearly aren't interested in learning, why are you trying to have such strong opinions on it? Are you just that bored?
>>
>>25354806
I'm fairly weeb, but I despise Japan because I've read a lot on it.

These are mutually exclusive. Completely.
>>
>>25354835
Nah, you can have your own deluded fantasy and see reality at the same time.
>>
>>25354851
Weeaboo means wannabe Japanese. A person who idolizes Japan and thinks it's some anime wonderland.
>>
>>25354868
How is this incompatible with what I said?
>>
>tfw you realize all the years you've spent lamenting not knowing Japanese you could have been studying
>>
>>25354881
Did you even read what I just said? Why are we even arguing about this? Jesus christ.
>>
>>25354924
As I said, you have have your own internalized fantasy dream Japanland, which isn't really anything like the real thing (i.e. what weebs generally tend to have) and be aware of what the real thing is at the same time.
>>
Don't remind me lad

1. What the fuck does that even mean? You need to learn those to read Japanese
2. They're very easy to learn anyway
>>
The hardest part is literally just getting started and getting a good consistent routine going. There is absolutely nothing hard or stressful about language learning.

Learn the kana by doing five characters at one on realkana. This can take a month or it can take a weekend. It doesn't matter. You could do a few and forget them for a month. It doesn't matter, they're still in your head somewhere. Then go to the /djt/ thread on /a/ and download and the recommended core2k/6k anki deck and do it daily at whatever pace you want. It does not matter.

You can worry all day about "buh i need to have perfect comprehension of every textbook grammar exercise and every kanji's obscure readings individually and never make mistakes" but that thought process is the only thing that makes learning an ordeal. Spend only as much energy as you need to make seeing and hearing the language more enjoyable every day.
