Honestly, in a couple of months, I'm just doing it myself, though I'm viewing it just as a retirement than anything else. The "community" aspect of the whole thing sounds really good on paper, but breaks down. There's just too much dysfunction that can happen the more people that are involved and everyone has different and sometimes conflicting ideas about what's best.
But, the real crux of the matter is money. I've found that people don't have even a few grand to put towards it, so it kills things right off the bat. Critical mass or not, it'll go nowhere without financing.
