Who /success/ here?

>Get CS and Maths degree
>Work for the Bank of England
>Get promoted over business degree cucks
>150k/yr with bonuses
>Start investing about 5 years ago
>Made nearly 300k this year alone
>Still a depressed, bitter autist
>mfw
>>
I own my own business (maritime, compass adjusting and boat captain), and made well over $350k last year.

I still feel dead inside.
>>
Just checked my phone, made 2 million just now on my investments i made yesterday. Feels Good Man.

>tfw no IRL 4chan social club

nope im poor as fuck and living off of autismbux
>>
I kinda feel you OP.

I was born a millionaire, my parents have about 200 million or more with passive income. They just pay for my condo and life while I NEET around.

DO GOOD JOB
TAKE GUYS OUT FOR DAY
JUST ENOUGH TO LIVE OFF
HARDLY CONCENTRATING// I WONDER IF YOU HAVE AS RELAXING DAY AS I DO

BANKERS PROBABLY HAVE EXTREME COKE HANGOVERS FROM SNOORTING ALL THROUGH THE FESTIVE PERIOD. EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU LOT ARE COOKING UP MONEY FOR YOURSELF OFF LITTLE KIDS GETTING A HARD TIME IN LIFE BUT YOU DONT CARE DO YOU
>>
>>25337849
Still in school, but I make the equivalent of $50/hour doing something tangentially related to my major.
>>
>Work 40 hours a week as a job coach with developmentally disabled people. Literally just stand around shitposting on my phone
>making $25,000 a year watching other people work
>single dude with low expenses
>small group of close friends
>working on qt coworker for a GF
I'd say I'm pretty successful for 21 and from a shitty family
>>
>>25338306
Why should I give a shit if kids are having a hard time? Those same kids are gonna have a hard time regardless of how much I make. It's not my fault their parents are junkies or chavs.

This. Pull yourself up from your bootstraps like I did.

Everyone wants everything handed to them on a solver platter RIGHT NOW nowadays.

I voted for the Conservatives and Big Dave still hasn't torn down the walfare state.

Should have gone UKIP 2bh. I live in London so there was no way UKIP was gonna get anything here but it's the principle.

This 2bh familia. These things NEVER work out in the end.

Is a CS degree alone good to do what you do OP? Maybe just prove that I can into math
>>
>>25338519
No. Programming experience is king.

I'm not even a CS major and they hired me for a programming related job.

damn.
>>

Pretty much, if you have money life is easy
>>
>>25338519
I use both equally to be honest. My job is kind of hard to explain but basically I make and implement financial models for the bank to use for predictions and so on. I did CS and maths because I liked both but there are guys here with either of them, physics degrees, economics, etc. Pretty much anything with a good ground in mathematical processes will make you a candidate.

You won't start on 150k though. I've just been promoted a couple of times.
>>
>>25337877
I don't know why, but this made me really curious about what you look like? I dont usually think about that when someone posts, but i feel like you need to have a certain look to do this job. Do you have a rugged seaman look?

Considering the field it's in, not very. I mean we do have to work a schedule but the deadlines are reasonable and I'm always in contact with the people who request the project.

I also travel quite a bit too. If businesses or governments abroad want to do big dealings in the UK via BoE, we send a team out and meet them and then they come to us and all the details are hashed out that way. I was in Riyadh and Hong Kong last month.

>>25338785
I did an internship in 2006 as a software dev with Barclays. And when I graduated the following year BoE came to me and said they were looking for somebody with my skill set. Try to get into software development for finance.
>>
>>25337849
where do you live and work? do you have to be in London for this?
>>
>>25339069
Did you graduated from a prestigious uni. I went to a mediocre one
>>
>>25338785
Just to add to my point from the last post about development for finance. A lot of people will tell you 'Oh no go for Google/Facebook/Twitter et al'. Personally I'd say to steer clear of the web giants. They only want a peon to make their next big feature, whereas in the financial sector you won't be on the cutting edge of consumer technology but it's much steadier work.
>>
>>25339124
I live in London yeah but once there's some kind of central office for the institution near you, you probably won't have to uproot yourself.

>>25339128
I went to Cambridge on a scholarship but you don't have to. The most important thing is the internship and doing that well. It's all well and good learning about computer science and maths but if you can't put it to use then you'll be no good to anyone.
>>
>>25339251
I already graduated with an engineering degree. Don't even know how I can get a job in banking industry.
>>
>>25339376
Idk if we have any engineers in my department but I mean you've got advanced calculus and statistical analysis no doubt. But you could get 6 figures just being an engineer surely.
>>
>>25339251
>Cambridge
That's just too much for me. I can't aspire to that level.
>>
Any advice for someone who wants to start over in their early 30's. Thinking about going back to school , but have no idea what to go for. Computer stuff seems way to complex for me

Yeah, man. So fucking depressing, how do you even manage ? You should seriously kill yourself. Not even kidding, if with that amount of money you can't enjoy your time in this life why even bother surviving ?
>>
>>25339617
If you can use the associates to get into a finance/economics course you could get something good out of that. You'd have to be pretty good a maths though. If not I'd say try get a bachelors in business management or something like that.
>>
>>25339677
>t. Abdullah the Labour shill
>>
>>25337849
Why are you depressed? (i know thats a dumb question, but is there a root to it, is it loneliness, the job, are you some kind of autistic savant?)

OP how did ya get your job at bank of England?

Finance bachelor here
>>
>>25337849

Want to feel actual love?

Do something with your power which will change the lives of the most unhappy people in society for the better.

Thats real success. You're only part of the way there. Thats why you feel like shit.

Try it. Its a different feeling to anything you've felt before.
>>
>>25339743
Always have been. I mean I have a good life but it's just my disposition. I've learned to live with it at this stage.

>>25339748
I'm not a banker though. Did you not read my posts? I can't affect change in a culture of people who don't bother learning about the models they use to do what they do. I make the models, I get mine and the bankers will abuse them as they always have and always will.
>>
>>25337849
do you want a gf?
>>
>>25337849
>working for banks

I wouldn't call that success, to be honest family.

>>25339848
/wisdom/
>>
>>25339832
See >>25339069 Internships are the key to success in the finance industry. You need to show something to back up your degree if you want to set yourself apart early on.
>>
>>25339856

then you are as pathetic as the junkies and the chavs.

You are actual scum.

kill yourself
>>
>>25338474
Thing is she technically isn't a coworker. She works at a business that a client I work with is also working at. So I drive the client and watch them work at this business and talk to this girl to kill time. Plus the client is moving away in the spring, just enough time to strike up a relationship
>>
>>25339929
Is it too late to throw myself into one after I graduate?

Also what financial models do they make you construct? Anything with risk sensitivity?
>>
>>25339990
No not necessarily.

I do a lot of modelling for risk. It's a large part of my job. I mentioned earlier that I travel a lot when the bank wants us to meet with potential partners; well when I do go to these people, my job is to give them a flavour of the models and methods we work on to show that they're stable, safe and profitable.

But I've also worked on statistical analysis software for market forecasts and the like.
>>
>>25339927
So I'm a moneyhoarder because I know how to make money?

>>25339946
Go back to crying over the tomb of Labour's election chances.
>>
>>25340117
Ah I hear ya.

Lastly where would I look? Do I just search for post grad internships? Do I look on their websites?
>>
>>25340150
>So I'm a moneyhoarder because I know how to make money?

No, you're a selfish faggot who fell for the rat-race brainwashing. People are meant to work as communities and help each other. There isn't meant to be a small minority of rich fucking niggers with too much money than they know what to do with while there's a plethora of starving and homeless people, and people living from wagecheque to wagechque all over the place on a daily basis.
>>
>>25340214
Company websites are a good place. Emailing places directly is good (be sure to include your cv). Big job sites will usually have a section for internships or graduates. If you haven't graduated yet, your uni career guidance could probably give you some leads to follow. Even if you have you could email them for some help.
>>
>>25340257
Again, I'm not responsible for people being homeless or struggling with their finances. People would still struggle if I was a shop assistant. I had the work ethic and the skill set to succeed, should I have just rolled over and gave up because Chelsea wasn't getting enough cash off the Jeremy Kyle show anymore?
>>
>>25340351
>I'm not responsible for people being homeless or struggling with their finances
That's a dumb fucking get-out-of-jail-free mindset and you know it.

>People would still struggle if I was a shop assistant
Yet you're not and you're doing fuck all to help people with your money by the looks of things.

>I had the work ethic and the skill set to succeed, should I have just rolled over and gave up because Chelsea wasn't getting enough cash off the Jeremy Kyle show anymore?
Clearly you were doing everything you did to secure a regular large wad of cash in your pocket. If you lived nobly and did everything out of pure interest and/or necessity, there would be less fucking suffering in the world because people wouldn't chase jobs that crush other people while lifting themselves up higher. It's literally people like you that are the biggest problem, so I'd be happy to for you to kill yourself if I'm honest.
>>
can i have some money?

The answer is no basically. OP is a cunt.
>>
>>25340590
>>25340485
Why is OP getting flak for getting a job with his education?
>>
>>25340485
>Get out of jail free mindset
It's also true.

>You're not doing fuck all to help people with your money
When did I say that?

>Doing everything to secure a regular large wad of cash
I mentioned earlier that I did my degree because it was out of interest. I liked computer science and maths. Working in finance came later. I didn't step on anyone's head to get here. I won a scholarship off my own back, I got my internship off my own back and I did well off it on my own back. And when BoE came to me with a job offer it was all off my own hard work.
>>
>>25337849

Because of one bitter autist. He wants to crucify op because he's jealous and is grasping at straws frankly. Since when do we demand wealthy bots spend all their time and money on charity? So he can help a bunch of single mums with mixed race babies? Help out the Chad's and Tyrone's who will blow everything you give them on shitty sports bets, beer, and coke? Fuck off with this shit. These shit tier plebs would not give one solitary fuck about you if the tables were turned. Fair enough then. But do shift your views on poor people. There's literally just like you and I, all they need is necessities and a bit of freedom. Help them, they're real people.

>>
>>25341260

Srs question, is a public sector place like the BoE filled with posh public schoolers doing dumb paper work jobs while working very few hours a week? That's the impression I get, even at the Mark Carney tier of the bank.

Are you one of these people raping the public sector on IT because it's filled with PPE plebs who either can't value shit or are chucking shitloads of public money to their private sector friends? Even if you personally aren't, does this happen?

Does your job actually require intelligence? Are you wasting your potential?
>>
>>25342329

>>25342410
What are you doing atm?
>>
>>25342593
No not necessarily. There are some chinless wonders who were too thick for even mummy and daddy to help them in the cubicles.

No I'm not one of those people. I'm sure it does happen but I'm not privy to it.

Yes it does. I don't think I'm wasting my potential.
>>
Money is meaningless without purpose OP
Got any hobbies? You could literally do anything you want for the most part
>>
>>25342701

OP you always hear about fintech being the new big thing. Do you feel like you have the potential to make megabucks due to starting your own business? Either through finanial knowledge or just your technical skills on their own?

Are computer people treated as second class citizens at these financial institutions? I imagine that software dev requires more brains than IT but I hear that they get paid much much less than people in client facing roles.
>>
>>25342734
Mostly just reading if I'm honest. I like going to the theatre too. A bit of writing.

Nothing that really requires any great amount of money.
>>
>>25342797
Well fintech is the new big thing. And yeah there is potential to make huge money from it. Would I like to start my own business? It is an idea I've toyed with, to be honest.

The average IT monkey is probably looked down on in the offices, but people in my department aren't, to my knowledge. We work pretty closely with other departments in the institution so that we can make the models they require. It's a huge collaboration. I don't do as much development myself because I've taken on more of a management role though.
>>
>>25342821
You should try out more expensive things if you have some spare time, like horseback riding or learning to fly... I mean might as well
