What college majors are 100% a total waste of time? I need to pick a major and I want to know what is absolutely off-limits.
>>
>>25336054
All of them. Take it from someone who has graduated college, works a job that doesn't require college (sales) and is going into the military in 6 months: Just learn a trade.
>>
>>25336054
anything related to business and management.

college is a scam unless ur studying computer science, engineering, or medicine. or if you get teaching certification for a liberal arts subject.
>>
>>25336054
Anything that isnt a medical degree you can teach yourself with books and the internet.
>>
Engineering/CS/accounting are the only viable majors. Everything else must be avoided.

>>25336114
someone chose a shit major
>>
>>25336161
>computer science
>not a scam
In two years, it'll be as worthless as an art degree. It's projected to be insanely oversaturated.
>>
>>25336114

This. If you don't know what you want, don't go. At the most, go for a year, try some survey classes that help you find what you like and decide from there if you want to continue education.

Don't do this unless you have no other options. The only reason people are here is because they don't have anything else. Skilled labor is the end of the line.
>>
>>25336232
It's only overvalued because of how many people can't even program.

If you're a good programmer you will be swept up in a second.

I make $36 an hour in my internship, don't listen to any of these cucks in the thread.
>>
I'll start with a basic master plot

good
>all engineering majors
>all math/science majors
>all business majors
>all IT/technology majors
>philosophy if you want to go to law school
>language if you solely want to work in the country where it is native and want to get as close as possible to being a native
>anything if you plan on only going directly into teaching

bad
>"x studies" majors
>anything related to cultures
>your native language
>art unless it's something digital and you'd better have a kick ass portfolio/business plan

will post a master list of a lot of majors so we can check them off one by one
>>
>>25336136
This. I have a degree in Business Administration and unless I want to work in some large corporation, the best i can do is work a menial office job for $11 an hour. I don't mind it, but it's not worth it for most people.
>>
>>25336281
>art unless it's something digital and you'd better have a kick ass portfolio/business plan
I'd add to this, it's only worth trying for art if you've been drawing constantly since an extremely young age. If you weren't making comprehensive pieces by age 10, then you won't be a good artist. This has been confirmed by numerous teachers.
>>

Social Sciences
Anything rewarding a BA
If you don't have connections then economics is a waste
Law is a cuck degree

If you're smart, go for a STEM, if you aren't don't cuck yourself at Uni
>>
>>25336325

I'm in architecture and this is similar. Honestly even from the 100 classes it's evident who has a design sense and who doesn't. If you've been paying attention to buildings and good designs for the past decade you will have an inclination of what constitutes a "good design." While it can be taught, the people that have been familiar with design the longest tend to do the best.
>>
>>25336054
Because no one wants to answer OP in anything but memes
>gender studies
>English or any language major
>business or management
>philosophy
>music/theater/art
>cosmetology, or any service position
>if your university has diversity quotas, computer science or any programming
>emergency medicine unless you're using it as a stepping stone to real medicine

Pretty much the best thing you can do for yourself is to learn a trade, something like plumbing, mechanics, or welding. If you're smart enough and have the cash, medicine could be good as long as you choose the right field in which to specialize.

Maybe I could get some input on my situation.

I'm leaving for the University in the US next year and I'll live there afterwards.
Right now I'm studying History over here to become a teacher, but I decided that I don't want to continue doing that (neither do I enjoy it much - considering its something I used to be passionate about - nor is the pay going to be great).

So I went through the majors at my future university and picked stuff I think I could pass (I'm not the smartest cuck in the shed) that also offers good jobs.

Could you give me some input on
Accounting
Healthcare Administration
Business Management
Construction Management

Thanks in advance, please no bully.

is anyone else surprised at how high some of these are? but even at the average, the difference between the engineers and the business management major is almost 1 million dollars.
>>
>>25336530
I guess it's because art-related professions (music, film, etc. etc.) have smalled chances of success. To be successful in thorse fields, you'll have to the top 10% or something like that and you're gonna make pretty decent moneys, but the other 90% will struggle, which obviously brings the average down. While to be a successful STEM faggot you need to have a functioning brain and that's it, the majority will get a decent salary.

>>

25K is what like 30% of the US makes a year.

that's a car a year, or a crazy vacation, or loads of toys. of course 25K is a lot of money.
>>

>>25336983
Where is that on your chart, again?
>>
>>25336232
Doing CS atm. This is only a half truth. There are too many people studying it. But most of them are no good. There are 4 kinds of people who do CS:

1. Weebs/Fedoralords who did Python for 3 weeks and think they're Linus Torvalds
2. Injee gayme divs, working desperately on the latest Mario ripoff
3. Normies who got told they were good with computers because they set up a facebook for their grandmother
4. People who are actually good

Of those, a small percentage will actually graduate with a degree in CS. Most will either transfer out or just simply drop out. Besides, every field is oversaturated because the lower classes and idiots can get into just about anything cuz dem programs n sheeit.

>>
>>25336893
To add to what this anon said:

pick your bachelor/masters project carefully
after internships it's the best way to show off your skills to your future employer and is a great way to get some valuable experience in the field of your choice

I made the mistake to wait too long and ended up with with a project mostly unrelated to what I wanted to do afterwards.
I wanted to get a cool programming job and all I got were invites for Business Intelligence positions due to my project.
it was still a cool project and thus got me job right after college but still...

This isn't really true. Some people are just more careful, compulsive, or have an eye for design. Not so much about practice, because anyone can practice. Some talent is more about your personality.

Every good designer I meet has mild OCD. Every great artist seems a bit compulsive. It's not true to every artist but if you have no interest/can't practice and you've always sucked, just don't go into art.

The same can be said about any kind of profession nowadays.

The key is not to be just a lawyer, but a great one, and to do that, you have to have a killer gpa, a great LSAT (which will get you into a great law school). From there you build connections and network, which is the same thing you do in pretty much any subject or profession.

But sure, if you want an easy time where you can just slack through school, don't do law school.

(Assuming you actually go to Harvard)
First of all, Harvard ain't #1 anymore, get used to it. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges

Secondly, seriously just do something business-y and go to Wall St. and become the ultimate wage-cuck Jew. Any major from a real Ivy can get there as long as you join a finance club and go to recruiting events. Heck, it's a running joke here how every Art History and Gender Studies student from HYP gets there somehow.

Sure, life will suck, enjoy 70+ hr workweeks, and sucking a ton of dick, but at least you get paid for it. If you can't handle the work, maybe try consulting.

Who /learning for the sake of learning/ here?

I'm majoring in anthropology and minoring in history. I don't care much what I do when I graduate. Getting a high-paying job should not be the purpose of going to a place of higher education; desu I find that those people really dilute the learning environment. No major is a waste of time if you enjoy studying it.

jk, but that's sort of how i'm looking at it too. We should be jumping into something that is actually challenging like engineering/cs/physics etc. I feel like we'll look back on ourselves 4-5 years from now wishing we sucked it up and did the challenging work. There are so many benefits to it.

I would like to advise everyone in this thread to try to understand how tax brackets work. Ive seen too many people on this board make comments like, "If I get a pay raise of 1000 bucks a year it will tip me into the next bracket and I'll make less money".

>No you are retarded.

Your income is only taxed for the brackets that it falls into.

For example: Assume the brackets are:

20% up to 30k

35% at 30k+

40% at 50k+.

Lets say you make 29k a year and you get a raise of 22k.

Great Job!

It means that the cash *between* 30 and 50 thousand dollars of your income will be taxed at 35%. The remaining 1k *over* 50% will be taxed at 40%.

Manual labor is for low IQ apes.
>>
>>25336054

Based on the first few posts, it's clear that /r9k/ will not appreciate or understand what I will tell you OP, which is a true answer.

But with very, very few exceptions, if all we're talking about are boring things like money, economics, employment prospects and so on, then pretty much all four-year degrees have intrinsic value in the sense that they make you more employable and/or employers actually will take you a bit more seriously if you have one than not. It's just a credentialing baseline that HR types (or persons doing an HR function at the moment) like to see irrespective of major, because of everything that it implies: you spent a long period of time on a project, played by certain rules (or if you didn't, then you didn't get caught), and actually succeeded in finishing. "Closing" is important in businesses, and HR types don't like to take a chance on a non-four-year-person for some middling skill-set role if they don't have to.

NOW. Having said all that, it should be obvious that some majors are more employable or "desirable" in the labor force than others. So now I'll throw out an assortment of uncool majors to avoid. Women's studies is a joke, Psychology is diluted (most popular undergrad major last I checked ten years ago, I think dull, unreflective ~105 IQ normies just automatically pick it because they want to study something more interesting to them than business, but it's common and pleb as fuck as an undergrad major), and architecture has repeatedly been reported in the past five years as as a bad choice if you want real work. There's a bunch of SJW/fluff majors and minors depending on the school, which you should recognize pretty much instantly, so you'll just avoid them as a matter of course. Consider something, anything in STEM (seriously) and/or business if you can learn to like that, and/or law or something med related if you're an ambitious turbo-normie. (cont)
>>
>>25345237

Now of course, it is also true that women's education plus the "college" meme generally, has diluted the value of a Bachelor's since there's plenty of not-particularly bright of competent plebs who have one these days (diversity quotas are also to blame for this, since browner people are dumber people). Therefore, it is very easy for robots, /pol/sters and so on to fall for the "fell for college meme" meme in the sense that they become more dismissive of it, but I repeat: it is better to have a four year degree than not... provided your debt upon completion is not some stupidly unmanageable thing north of, say, $25,000 or similar.

Having said that, it is true what others have said, that we do need people in trades; labor forces for plumbing, HVAC, trucking and similar endeavors are in fact drying up (and I know some of this from experience); you can do just fine for yourself in a skilled trade.

My big pushback against the "fell for college meme" meme is that today's young men seem to see all the leftist rotgut in the academy, the women receiving credentialing while playing on tutorial mode, (all while not getting any sex in those pivotal 18-24 years), and then for whatever reason concluding that college isn't for them. This is a form of psychological self-cuckoldry, and self-selecting out of what invariably leads (demographically, if not individually) to a better state of existence, which is education. Now I"m actually gonna wax "left" for a bit, because I happen to agree with the following, and there really is no better way than this to describe the anti-college attitude today. (cont)

>jobs
>expanding your mind only in efforts to be a waegkek for chad
>not living off ramen as a means of supporting expanse of your mind

You know the Socratics were just a bunch of hippy NEETs that hung around in gardens. Never did anything for humanity.
>>
>>25345445

The anti-college attitude of today is disturbing on multiple levels, but in one sense it can actually be explained by means of a sort of mainstream if-not-"left", than "intellectual" analysis. Particularly in America.

-There IS an American tradition of anti-intellectualism. It's not cool to be the smart kid in the class, "the eggheads don't know what they're talking about", and so on. "Knowing stuff" is somehow effeminate. I think this may have abated somewhat over time among white demographic groups, but it's still as firmly entrenched as ever among the brown castes, where there's more of a crabs-in-a-bucket effect. Asians OTOH have always culturally loved tests, exams, credentialing...

-Young men today see the debt, the women flooding the campuses, and somehow seem to convince themselves that a credentialing is as bad or as toxic to one's own future as a marriage can be. This isn't the case; student debt is "good debt" in the sense that you can eventually make more money, and it (your education) won't be capriciously taken away from you eight years later just because you're not fucking her right anymore. Education is as permanent as your brain is. This is why Jews (who are smart) emphasized the acquisition of education, which is portable-it can't be taken away.

-The fascist (or far-right, or alt-right) distrust of certain strains of abstract thought (which is at times reasonable, witness the Obama administration, Obamacare etc) nevertheless has its own more immediate diminishing returns opposite the Marxist ivory-tower theorizers. If you make it cool to be dumb, you get dumb people. At some point, this is maladaptive. The manosphere personality Roosh himself once dismissed higher education in general in an article of his; but given his audience and rhetorical intent, I believe he just plain hates the feminism and SJW-dom of today, which although reasonable is a poor justification to throw higher ed (that matters) in toto under the bus.

Biology undergrad is absolutely useless unless you go to med school or grad school. By itself, it's a $12/hour jerkoff job where you clean test tubes and prepare petri dishes.

Chemistry by itself isn't much better, but it can be useful.

I fell for the trades meme. Actually did it because it was spouted here. Wasted a year in a CC learning welding while feeling superior to all my peers who went to college and got degrees.

Worked for two months after getting hired. I worked in miserable hot conditions and didn't even remotely enjoy my job. Many loud people screamed at me for over ten hour shifts. Shit was terrifying. After the first day I knew there was no way I'd last.

You need to be raised for that sort of thing. Almost no one here actually has the constitution to be able to do trades, and I can't understand why you'd want to anyway. It breaks your body and your will.

It was a good experience in retrospect; I take college very seriously now after working hard then. Engineering major is a joke after those two months welding.

You get paid decent initially (sometimes) but you are getting fucked for it. Don't fall for the trades meme.

You're going to die very soon, why would you waste your short amount of time on this planet doing stupid bullshit that doesn't matter?

Do I just give up on being a doctor bros?

How likely is it for you to get into med school?
>>
>>25348410
economics is a worthless degree unless you go to a top 20 school, but you could major in anything at a top 20 school and get a good job.
>>
is Human Resource Development a meme major?

it seems pretty in-demand and high paying
>>

i have a math degree, too. graduated with a 3.8 GPA now i make $35k/yr doing manual labor in a factory on swing shift. going back for my masters in accounting in the fall semester because i'll kill myself before i do manual labor for another year.

math is the ultimate meme degree. it is ABSOLUTELY worthless unless you study statistics or actuarial mathematics at a good school.

I need more clinical hours, but after that I think I'm in a really good position. I live in a state that's really good for in-state admissions and could easily get into any DO school with my numbers if I have to go that way

In that case keep going at it Dr. Anon. God speed.

I'm doing Journalism next semester. Am I fucked? Since I broke out of NEETdom I'm not as much of a social sperg as I used to be, and my writing is still decent.

Doing anything mathematical is a fucking chore for me, a lot of what I already know has been learned through repetition and I can't stand using computers/technology for anything other than vidya. Admittedly, learning about Economics seems pretty interesting but I just love writing articles/essays and trashing people like an arrogant cunt from behind a screen/pen.

Did I dun goof'd? I'm shit at maths and PoliSci+International Relations seemed to meme-y.
>>
>>25355372
Yeah, you're fucked. That's even worse than an English major. But if you enjoy it etc etc.

>>25355581
I'm a barrister with social anxiety, you'll be fine.
>>
>>25355581
No you're fine, as long as you're ok with being a wagecuck just like everyone else. You do realise that only the -bergs and -steins or natural born elite WASPs make it big in law right?

And by fine, I do mean working in any entry level job that will take you (almost definitely not in your field). I know my state churns out thousands of law graduates a year with only a couple of hundred jobs being available for them.

You've chosen to put in some effort into a field that requires it but does not reward you for this. Most law students I know of have needed to go back for a second degree afterwards...and are still unemployable because they obviously have never had a job and are in their mid 20's.

Any CS job will be taken by Panjeet before they ever consider a White male who wants expensive benefits.

>>25355159
yeah make sure you REALLY want to study medicine before you waste thousands of dollars applying to med school. i'm this >>25355133
guy and i attended med school for a semester until i dropped out to wagslave in a factory. it is an absolutely MISERABLE field of study, medicine, even in the pre-clinical years.

Can't speak to second world countries and their job markets pham. How desperate are people to get into it? How many people take it? Are people scrambling to get into it?

This should be an indicator for you, if everyone is dying to get into this uni course, in 5 years the job market will be saturated, but dumbfucks will still fight each other for spots.
