My Cichlids come to the front of the glass whenever i approach and follow me around the room and get really excited when it's feeding time, I don't think reptiles or fish can love but i think they know and appreciate the fact that you take care of them.

You have to train it to like its cage. Make it his safe space. Put a Towel or blanket over it, leaving the front facing outward. Never put him in there if he doesn't want to or if he resists. He'll grow to be wary or scared of it. Give him treats while he's in it, throw his toys in there, put a used shirt of yours in there. Whenever he's out of it, sneak a treat in there so when he comes back he'll have a surprise and will go in there to check himself every now and then. It took a couple weeks and my dog sees his cage as his own little personal space.
