How do you make and keep online friends?

I have a few.

I'm pretty skilled at TF2 so many people in the server I was a regular of added me. Talk to 3-4 of them still.

1 is from a reddit co-op thread. We just kept talking after the game and tried others. Dude has a fucked up life but I didn't bring it up.
>>
>>25319485
No clue.

Any time I make a friend online, I feel like I'm way more eager to talk to them than vice versa.

This usually leads me to not message them first and wait for them to say something, which they often don't.
>>
Friends don't exist. You always want something from them that is not simple friendship.
>>
>>25319485
why would you want any?
you would have to put effort into talking to someone you don't know and never see

what's the point in that? especially when you know they have their own life where you aren't a major part of
>>
>>25320269
Because I'm very boring and lonely and want to listen to someone to talk about themselves.
>>
>>25320269
I don't understand.
Friends irl = spending time together because you enjoy each other's company
Friends online = the exact same with less freedom on what to do together
>>
Keep in contact. Every day.

Easiest is an irc chatroom. Just pop in and say hi.

Needs to be a 2 way thing tho.
>>
>>25320442
I feel like if I message them every day to say hi, I'm pestering them.
>>
>>25320269
this
it's not worthy, op. they're not your real friends, youre just 2 bored people. the moment one of you get something irl (something that keeps you busy, real friend, gf/bf) you will drift apart
>>
>>25321039
If I had real friends or a girlfriend, I wouldn't need online friends.
>>
by having them be within enough distance to hang out in real life
>>
>>25321130
>the moment one of you get something irl
>one of you
can you read? people have lifes, and being their online "friends" is being a minor part of it, they'll discard you if they get bored, they wont be as clingy as you, but even if you find a friendless person, they'll eventually find something better to spend time with instead of with some random guy they'll never meet
>>
>>25321536
So I'm doomed, eh?
>>
Waste of fucking time honestly.

My friends online only want me to ever be lewd with them anyway since I met most of them through ERP.

But yeah. They'll eventually abandon you, regardless of what you do. They can exit and enter your life as they please.
>>
>>25319485
I've had good friends online for years, that I talk and play with daily.
Uve just gotta find the right people and after about a year of hanging out they'll stick.

It's easier to have something in common and be the same age group. That way you both "grow up" together.

>How do you make and keep online friends?
>keep

You don't.

Online friendships give no closure. Since your real lives aren't embedded into each other's in a meaningful way, they eventually end for mysterious reasons. Maybe they're dead. Maybe they moved. Maybe they have financial or medical problems that require all their attention. Maybe they realized themselves that online whatever is a waste of our limited time. Who knows.

That's not to say that you can't have good times with online friends or that you can't teach each other interesting/meaningful stuff, but you can't afford to put too much emotional investment in your "relationship". I think.
>>
I made all mine through jaded Internet communities. Keep them through voip services and social networks
>>
Only online friend I had was a guy a few years ago I met through /r9k/ who was depressed.

It got old very fast because most of our conversations were one-sided, I'd ask "how was your day" or something and he'd just say "shitty, I didn't do anything, I just want to die". There was nothing I could do or say to help him, and eventually I just had to cut it off because we were exchanging sentence fragments about nothing.

It's sad. I wonder if he's still alive.
>>
It's shit. Don't even start one.

Online friends aren't friends.

They only talk to you out of convenience. You're just something to help them pass the time and that's it. You mean nothing to them outside of that.

You make them by being yourself

You keep them by holding their hand

I've accepted the fact that I can't maintain friendships anymore. Too bad it doesn't stop me from trying to find a clingy, friendless NEET on Omegle once in a while when loneliness starts to eat at me. I just want someone I'm on equal footing with.

Um, talk to them like normal people and ask them how their day went. Then ask them what they're playing and play something with them if you like what they're playing.

Just like having normal friends.
>>
Online friendships are worth it. Ended up meeting one if my online friends of like 6 years irl after he decided to study in my country, now we do stuff together in person.
>>
>>25320509
They think the same.
>>
They eventually abandon you when they find a life of their own IRL.
>>
>>25321130
>>25321536
i have lots of friends irl and am generally liked by everyone i know unless some act polite and hate me. either way i still enjoying having my online friends because i can spend/waste heaps of time talking to them. you can get to know online people really well and open up easily because of the faceless element that is online friends
>>
>>25323395

It's closed now, this was over 2 years ago but we still talk.
