Both are so far removed from humanity. Both are weird distorted caricatures of power. Both would smile at you and have coffee with you and then calmly gesture to have your entire family tortured to death in a cellar under their palace when you left the room.
I'd say Hitler was maybe MARGINALLY more human because at least he was deluded into thinking he had some kind of cause. Some slivers of humanity accidentally still clung to his bones after decades of self-brutalisation. The stories of meeting Stalin in person are a lot more chilling than similar stories of Hitler. Much more calculated and clinical. Hitler seems more like a deluded, tortured theocrat who is convinced he's serving God's will, while Stalin seems more like a machine that takes actual joy specifically in looking you right in the eye and telling you the Soviet government has no record of your family's deportation, until you look away first.
