White people look white, black people look black, but Asians do not look yellow.

East Asians essentially have very white skin and Southeast Asians have copper skin. I guess you get yellow if you combine the two?

I just always wondered why they were called. Does anyone have an explanation for this beyond that it's just the way it is and that's how it's always been?

some asians are kind of yellow. Also were more yellow than white people. Tends to be older asians rather than younger ones. Today you see lots of young asians on tv and media but in reality more people are older

That would just be the same as starting to call white people pink, though.

Although, yes, this particular gook looks like a sunset. Yellow is probably slightly more accurate than copper in decribing him.
