They aren't that hipster, even though nobody could tell you who the band is damn near everyone has heard love will tear us apart at some point. They just didn't make that huge of a cultural impact because they were only around for all of four years and New Order got more electronic and less Joy Division as time went on.

That's alright, literally an entire subculture of people who liked the goth aesthetic but couldn't get down with post punk and moody monotone vocals started up for people like you.
I only really like the goth rock classics myself. Goth basically devolved into wearing black clothes and liking anything 'dark' enough to be associated with goth as soon as the music scene started branching out into seventeen different but vaguely related sub-genres.
Back in the day it was all found in the same CD/Vinyl box labeled 'Alternative'

It used to be a tangible thing with real world presence though. You could see their members in the streets, not the shit they liked on facebook. People would deck themselves out in weird usually homemade clothing and makeup to make themselves stand out and proudly proclaim to the world that they aren't one of you.
