To be fair, 4chan is NOTHING like Reddit.

4chan
>Can post without an account
>Designed as an image aggregator
>Other than the OP, posts are only listed by time
>Limited number of boards; have to find the board relevant to your interests
>Software ripped off from 2chan, an open discussion forum kinda place that is largely self-contained

Reddit:
>Account required for posting
>Designed as a link aggregator
>Thread-based discussion with branches and proper reply chains
>Boards can be made by users; if there's not a board for your interest, you can just make one and hope it takes off
>Software ripped off from Digg, meant for sharing content you've found elsewhere that would be otherwise hard to find, without intending to discuss it

your opinions of either aside, they are simply intended for different activities right off the bat

I remember back when Newgrounds exposed me to porn at an early age. Coming from a very religious household, I knew this shit was taboo to me. I used to have intense shivers while watching because it was a totally new experience.
>>
>>25296932
Not for me, I was a Newgrounds fag so the hentai section did it for me. I was also like twelve then so something as simple as taking the clothes off a dress up game would do me.
>>
>>25296931
As I predicted in my first post, mad oldfag spotted.

I've been on 4chan since there were only two boards. There was nothing edgy or original about very early /b/. It was literally Reddit: the self-aware sense of humor, penchant for geek culture, atheism, all the elements were there. 4chan started to actually develop an identity when it got a little more well-known.
>>
>>25295875

It was still pretty shit, plus there were no chans. There was SomethingAwful *shudder*. The only good things I can think about it is file sharing programs that aren't torrent sites. Only good service now is slsk but that's only a fraction of what it was.

>>
When you think about them, a lot of those sites were pretty shitty in their humour and not that funny.

YTMD, Newgrounds, Somethingawful, Ebaums, AlbinoBlackSheep. It was all toilet humour really. It was just that you were a kid so your humour was less mature. It's why Pewdiepie is so popular these days.

Redditors try to pander to the masses, 4channers did not fear being against the masses because they were anonymous. Either you're not an oldfag, or you just haven't been to reddit.

Also madness combat was the shit.
>>
>>25297011
Exactly, I dunno, for me simple stuff would do, now I need tabs. I could fucking orgasm in seconds, maybe it actually was just because It'd have to take so long my boner couldn't take it.
>>
>>25296995
>As I predicted in my first post, mad oldfag spotted

No shit. You posted something stupid and I'm calling you stupid.

Early /b/ started in '03 and early Reddit started in '05 so I think you're full of shit and trolling.
You cant have early /b/ be like a site that doesnt fucking exist yet.

When Reddit started, it had 4chan's/Newgrounds sense of humor for a short while before it became what it is now.

If you think there's nothing original on 4chan then you're saying there's nothing original on Reddit, either.
>>
>>25297025
Yes, you're right. We probably found it funny because we were younger and naive; the whole internet was naiver. 4chan circa 2005-2006 is where things really started to take shape, to form an ethos. It had an identity that was unprecedent in my opinion. Everything we see today is mostly a rehash of this golden era.

Sincere, geeky, witty, safe for work, uncontroversial. Very early /b/ was all about this shit, it was just after a couple of years that 4chan became edgy and left-field. The sincerity was still there during 2005 or so, but the childlike quips were starting to disappear. When early 4chan humor started to become widespread, /b/ reacted by going even more left-field: shit that was literally illegal, raids and so on. This is the moment when the 4chan identity started to take shape.

I noticed the drop when they changed from MSN Messenger to Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft wanted their MSN web page and stuff to be more popular after a bad hit of press when it was discovered that on MSN groups/chat there was like some pedo stuff going on. So they renamed to 'Windows Live' if you remember, this was when @hotmail.comemails were no longer available, only @live.com, dunno why they changed MSN because it was the most popular messenger at the time, had been for years, taking over AIM years ago. After that it dropped and skype took over. They changed a lot of shit about Windows Live then, taking away a ton of statuses, you had to use your real name and they took the handwriting feature away.

Yeah, before smartphones with significant internet accessing capabilities, normies would have had to use a computer, and mind you in 2008, laptops weren't as widespread as they are now. With the capabilities of the iPhone series, and the probes sent to normie-land in the form of TBBT, the world was sure to change.

Even though being young on the early 2000s internet was great, Neopets, Gaia, Runescape etc. I missed out on all the adult stuff, which sucks, I'm curious as to what it was like. Since it was a lot more sectioned than it is now, not every adult had the internet or used it. It was mostly stoners I guess.

I found this place shortly after the first Habbo raids I believe and took part in the second annual one, as well as a number of others. They too are some of my fondest memories.

Also;
>Fapping to some porn that I discovered when I first got the net at home
>Just some chick modelling but still hot.
>Logo on the pic says 2002
>Look at the girl and start to wonder how her life turned out since then
>Wonder what she did for Christmas
>Fapping ceased as I'm overcome with nostalgic thoughts.

I can't be the only one?

Less corporate interference. Considered too risky to set up wholesale.

No viral marketing/social 'advertising' companies manipulating trends and running massive bot farms. Pic related, the slayer of the internet.

Simple explanation anons, no iPhones yet and social media gadn't fully taken off except for cancerous MySpace. So all the normies played outside and you have to remember Comiccon hadn't integrated yet with television so people in large numbers weren't watching online about bragging how much of a nerd they were like now. The year 2007 is when both real life and the Internet went to shit, everything got dumbed down so that it was more user friendly for idiot normals and that's also the year being a nerd became cool with them so companies like Apple wanted stupid normies to buy their products, market them online by telling other normies what a nerd they were for buying a piece of shir mobile device and I think that's when Autism acceptance was happening too, MAY have been 2008, as solo n as Aurism acceptance was getting off the ground and peopled were using it in social media profiles to describe how needy and quirky they are I knew that's when things started to go to shit. 2007 also happened to be the year The Big Bang Theory started too so it can't have been a coincedence.

Excuse the errors, I'm very drunk
>>
It's still the same, just more popular. What you're experiencing is simply getting older. Becoming more aware of this, maturing and as such not sharing the same humour as you did as a kid, which is why you don't get what the kids are into anymore. It's not that things have changed, you just don't find that funny anymore. A combination of maturing and getting used to it. It's not fresh and new anymore.

Are you fucking serious? /b/ has always been full of sick shit. Get the fuck out newfag. Early 4chan and reddit could not have been more different. Early reddit was very much like Hacker News is now: focused on computer science and programming and a very small, intimate community. You'd never see gore or tits on reddit before the era of subreddits.

You're so new that you believe that reddit has always been the way it is now. Reddit went almost 5 full years without any subreddits.

That single fact alone destroys the comparisons you were trying to make.

And speaking of reddit, perhaps you should go back there.

My 2 cents:

There are 2 reasons why the Internet sucks now

1. Despite what people say, the Internet has always been shit. The thing is, back then, it was genuine shit. People made content not because it was going to get them likes, views, or favorites, but because they were genuinely interested in it. There was a time when Mario, Zelda, Sonic, and Pokemon parodies were actually entertaining instead of being the first sign of a hack. I can watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2kgkeisv34 and admit I no longer find it that funny; but I can still smile at the fact that somebody made this because they just wanted to instead of popularity (there's a fucking reaction nigger video when I typed this in). Back then, there was a different state of mind. Most people back then were either 21+ and some sort of social outcast or underage b&. As time went on, most of them grew up and could no longer make content anymore or no longer have a community to work with. It's just life. The older you get, the more things in the past fade away. It's like returning to your hometown 10 years after you graduate and see your favorite playground taken down. Enjoy youth while you can.

2. As another anon said, 2007 was when the Internet boomed. MW1 and Halo 3 came out, WiFi became huge, Social Media began to rise and gave normal-fags a place to post their stupid shit outside of emails. There was now a reason for normal-fags to browse the Web. They came in and ultimately destroyed what the Internet was at the time. But they didn't kill it. That honor goes to Reddit. Reddit is what killed all entertaining content. Reddit shamelessly stole from all over the Web not to promote people's work, but to give themselves popularity. Reddit is the reason why people make content to become popular. Why their are multiple Minecraft, let's Plays, etc... The best examples I can think of is how they killed Rage Comics and are now killing Pepe. They also paved the way for Buzzfeed to become popular.
>>
>>25302142
While I can't speak for other anons, IMO, the main reason why I'm so pissed about all of this happening is that I never expected it. I cans ee stupid shit like Vine and Instagram going away. I can see the shitty YouTubers who work at Polaris lasting another 5 years before their 5 minutes of fame is up. Yet I could've never predicted the Internet in general would do a complete 180 on what it was back in 2006 and prior. And now that it's all happened, I guess I wish I would've enjoyed it more while it was around and not taken it for granted.

That's my whole take on it.
>>
>>25297633
