I started reading OPM a while ago and had fun reading it and found the success of ONE to be encouraging.
Recently it's become more mainstream and one of my fried starts raving about it seemingly forgetting how dismissive he was when I casually recommended it. Worse yet a bunch of casually anime scrubs who're part of a club I'm in get a hold of the band wagon and obnoxiously prattle on about it.
It really wouldn't be so bad but they all seem to go on about how powerful Saitama is and miss the the fact that the whole thing is a parody at heart.

This is probably the most annoying part about it. The anime puts too much effort into showing off cool shit without having the same laid-back atmosphere that the manga did. It's still a visual spectacle with great animation, but all substance seems to have been lost in the transition. Now people unironically bring up powerlevel arguments with Saitama, it's like everyone just forgot that it's a gag manga.

The internet has changed, it was back in the Gaia Online days that Naruto and Bleach were big, I think. The internet was still mainly nerds then. Now we're in the age of normies and Reddit. I think the people that still watch those shows are only hanging on from the old era.

Honestly, the anime isn't that great of an adaptation in that regard. The animation is amazing and seeing passionate animators putting their heart into their work is nice to see. But the storyboarding aside from Natsume's epsiodes is pretty weak and the unique, comedic edge that OPM is lost. Murata's version kinda faces a similar problem, but he still manages to get the comedy down for it despite how "epic" his art can be. Or at least from the few chapters i've read of it.
I still enjoyed it, but the animation seems like the only exceptional thing about it. Feels pretty sub-par overall.

At long last I have solved the riddle of the normies shit taste. I think I finally understand how they work a little better. They don't watch character dramas and the like. They just watch action for easy stimulation of their minds. I think I understand how they work a little better now. Anything that doesn't have regular action scenes, or has non-glorified violence, probably won't be in a normie list.
e.g. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is about space wars, but it's low budget and focuses more on the characters, politics and battle tactics than the action. It also has a lot of "down time" between some conflicts. Unsurprisingly normies don't watch it.

Don't watch it. For the 24 episodes that it's worth I can sum it up in a sentence. I won't spoil it for you, but it's highly praised for it's references and "memes", not for the plot or anything.
