naturally, avoid drinking fluids before bed. but especially avoid dieuretics like caffeine, cranberry juice, or sugary "drink" kinda drinks like soda or cheapo "fruit punch". if you're thirsty, just drink water or milk, or eat fruit. it'll cycle into your body better and you'll generate less piss.diapers are a poor solution to bedwetting because they're wasteful and expensive. cloth diapering isn't very good at containing piss when you're laying down, and diapers are made more for people who will be standing or sitting, not laying. even a modern disposable diaper won't perform very well if you're in bed laying on your side or back like most people sleep.

good suggestion of him getting a waterproof mattress protector. The new ones are also really discreet and don't crinkle like the old vinyl ones did. I would suggest he gets two, of them, at least one of the fitted sheet kind that he can easily take off, the other can be the full encasement zipper one, or another fitted sheet kind. he can also make his bed with sheets on top of one mattress protector, and then place the second protector on top of that so when he wakes up in the middle of the night, all he has to do is take of the top set, and his bed is all set.
I would also highly recommend getting a few Reusable Underpads. you can place them on top of or under your sheets to contain the accident. Or you can place one on top and one underneath your sheets so if the top one moves, the other one will catch it.

I had a plastic sheet when I was a kid, and honestly, while I could feel it and it rustled a little bit, it wasn't THAT obvious. a little bit but it's worth it. I actually got the idea off of Instructables, apparently a lot of people balance ease of use with not getting shit on their hands constantly by composting baby diapers instead of going full cloth. I figured, why not do it with my own diapers? I only wet anyway.
It's pretty easy to do, I have a second bin (an old coffee can) that I do the ripping open in/over. Then shake the diaper out still in the can, and throw the plastic outer part away (since it's only good as landfill anyhow; even to "direct recycle" it would be to cut it to literal ribbons and use as inorganic filler; may as well let the city do that, since they have artificial islands and peninsulas to build now and again). I give the bin a stir, same as I would if I were throwing leftover onion bits or egg shells or w/e in, throw the SAP in, give it another stir, and leave it be.
