Trying to explain this to people without coming off as an asshole is difficult. I enjoyed the movie, and even Rey to an extent, but certain shit bothered me about it. This is one of them. The piloting thing was especially bothersome because the Stormtroopers had largely proven themselves to be fairly competent by this point in the movie. They weren't trying to destroy the Falcon, just disable it, and they managed to disable the only gun that was firing at them. She was flying very erratically, so that was not an easy shot to take. Then all of the sudden, she's a professional pilot pulling moves that would give Han trouble and they dispatch the pilots with ease.
The few times she's "failed" have actually been beneficial to the plot as a whole. The whole adventure on Han's ship is one of them. She gets caught, then she releases all the monsters. The rest of that scene is her saving everyone else and never being in any danger. Then, she gets captured by Ren, escapes with her sudden mastery of the force, and saves everyone again.
She was never in any real danger.
This is the only rei I need in my life.
