I think the Porsche and Ferrari sets are pretty cool, and they mostly use traditional blocks to do it instead of stickers and custom pieces. I haven't actually bought any but I've been tempted, and since I work in the automotive business I totally have an excuse since everybody has toy cars and stuff on their desks.
They're overpriced, but Lego has always been insanely expensive. Somebody posted scans of a ~1990 catalog a while back and I was blown away by how expensive that shit was, I think it's actually gotten cheaper if you factor in inflation.

Also, I'm amazed by the quality of modern sets. It seems like they all have cool unique pieces and minifigs. I guess because Lego has increased their production so much since the 80s they can afford to create more molds, instead of having to use the same faces and pieces across several themes

Pretty sure lego has a price search feature on their site. There are some Sportscars, robots, and minor star wars sets which go for that much.
