Crossbow hunting is a legit sport, maybe ask /asp/ or /k/ about it.
Long distance weapons are cowards' weapons, so they can't be edgy.

Agreed perfectly good hunting weapon used it to hunt once and a while. But if you just have it for kicks it's edgy. Just don't think you look cool when you use it please.
Being yourself doesn't work.
I used to compete. I had a real bow too. None of that compound or fiberglass bullshit.
Archery is fun. It's no edgier than guns. I like irons but I also use scopes. I never competed in riflery though. First gun I shot was a 12g as an underweight 12 year old. They thought it was hilarious. Once my senses came back I was pissed they didn't warn me. The 20g still kicked but was manageable at least. I think every boy has been thrown to the ground from recoil at least once. It's almost a coming of age ritual.
I learned how to shoot a bow as a boyscout, not a bad skill to have. Haven't used it for a while but the fundamentals are still there.

Less effort expended for a greater draw weight is not training wheels, it's practicality. Recurves are too large to stalk deer through thick brush anyway.

i got into archery because i played too many video games. and the only people that did archery were other kids that played too many video games, and old people that just want something to do.
was pretty fun at first but it gets repetitive after a while so i couldnt be fucked anymore.
